A Question. Or A Slippery Slope.

 https://x.com/arifleischer/status/2017232650281320665?s=51&t=cLq01Oy84YkmYPZ-URIMYw

"Next time there is a Democrat President, cities and counties should declare themselves sanctuaries and refuse to comply with EPA regulations. Don’t abide by limits, mandatory standards, and lengthy reviews that cities and counties deem unreasonable. Rural counties especially don’t need to abide by EPA rules. Isn’t that how this works?"

"If cities and states can declare themselves “sanctuaries” and refuse to comply with Federal law, why can’t individuals do the same to cities and states? Why can’t individuals in MN declare themselves sanctuary citizens and refuse to pay taxes? Or obey laws they disagree with? Refuse to pay for the military? Or fill out a tax form? What would Governor Walz and Mayor Frey do if citizens did to them as they’re doing to the Federal government. They’d go after these individuals, just like the Federal government is and should go after MN leaders until they follow the law. There is no such thing a a sanctuary from the law. Everyone needs to obey the law or work within the system to change the law. Sanctuaries are slippery slopes."

What exactly is the threshold to declare a "sanctuary" and exempt that "sanctuary from federal law?  Can I go buy 40 acres out in the middle of nowhere, declare it a "sanctuary" and ignore building codes, environmental law, property tax, and zoning laws? If not, why not? What magically makes cities, states, or counties able to exempt themselves from laws they don't like?

  1. Rational, moral decency?

Being helpers instead of harmers or oppressors?

Presumably, you'd agree with all rational, moral modern free thinkers in saying...

" If an individual (s) - think the Bundy family - declared themselves free to use National Parks to run slave rings... and they can DO it, because they are a "sanctuary" for slavers seeking to enslave other humans for their benefit! - Presumably, you would say, Hell no! You are NOT free to cause harm to others!

    Right?

(Please tell me I'm not underestimating you!)

On the other hand, if a church or faith group or others declare their church a safe haven and sanctuary for good refugees seeking escape from harm/rape/death in their own countries... whose only "crime" was that the government failed to grant them refugee status... these are clearly helpers, people working in good faith to prevent harm, rape, murder.

WHATEVER the laws in your state, would you not defend that kind of sanctuary?

If not, we'll, that's the difference between us and you.

Those who deny sanctuary in that kind of circumstance would be Rolf and other villains who obeyed the law to turn in the Von Trapp family or "illegal" jews.

The question is, which side are you on..?

    1. Helpers like those who stole billions from taxpayers and harmed the sick, hungry, and homeless? Helpers like Pretti who looks more and more like a deranged stalker who was let go from his nurse job and involved in multiple violent engagements with LE? How about the drug and human traffickers that MPLS city council members tried to protect?

You’re right that you’ve just articulated the exact argument to justify what “sanctuary” jurisdictions are doing. If your scenario was Trur, then I’d support the feds taking appropriate steps to solve the problem.

Why would the same response not be justified when it’s a city or county choosing to pick and choose which laws they want to follow?

No. Your hypothetical is absurd and has no relation whatsoever with the current situation. But no I would not support flagrant violation of longstanding US law based on subjective nonsense. Especially absent any attempt to comply with or change the law.

What if, to use your bizarre hypothetical, an extremist Mosque decided to provide sanctuary for some good Jihadists who were planning to overthrow a city and kill those who don’t submit?

What if a synagogue decides to give sanctuary to Mossad teams bent on eliminating their enemies in the US?

Both are using your “good” rationale (with them defining good as you are) to do exactly what you advocate.

Again, shitty analogy on multiple levels you brainwashed lemming.

I’m on the side that doesn’t consider this the Ft Sumpter moment and that doesn’t see Tampon Tim as a less honorable and more corrupt Jefferson Davis.

But tracks for supporting an actual insurrection.

    2. "On the other hand, if a church or faith group or others declare their church a safe haven and sanctuary for good refugees..."

A little more on this idiotic hypothetical.

      1. The Biden administration allowed around 10,000,000 un vetted, un identified, and unknown illegal aliens into the US in 4 years.
      2. #1 is on top of the millions already in the US.
      3. Just the presence of these illegal aliens, and their inclusion in the census was enough to skew the makeup of the house of representatives.
      4. Given that the trillions of dollars in resources that the federal government has available, and failed to use to screen tens of millions of illegal aliens, how is it even possible than one small church or faith group can effectively screen tens or even hundreds of illegal aliens?
      5. Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), specifically codified under 8 U.S.C. § 1324. specifically forbids the aiding of those in the US illegally.
      6. IF, and IF is the key, those who choose to break US law to aid and abet others who've broken US law were fully prepared to submit to authorities when/if apprehended and accept their punishment that would be one thing. At least it would be acknowledging the authority of the federal government.
      7. If these jurisdictions want to reject the authority of the federal government to enforce immigration law, then I see no problem with the federal government withholding federal resources from those jurisdictions.

"When Biden refused to enforce immigration law, we were told that states couldn’t enforce those laws because it was a federal function."

Now, when Trump is trying to enforce federal immigration law, these same people say it’s fine for states to obstruct and sabotage the carrying out of this same federal function."

I know it's a lot, but how about of the ASPL maintained at least a minimum level of consistency. Remember when TX tried to stop the flood of illegal aliens at the border, but Biden used federal assets to prevent TX from doing so? Yeah, y'all should probably pick a stance and stick to it.

  2. There is no such thing a a sanctuary from the law. Everyone needs to obey the law or work within the system to change the law.

Those, of course, are NOT the only two options. Surely you agree?

IF the system is set up in such a way that the majority are not able to change the will of the minority, as in an authoritarian or apartheid or other less-representative systems, THEN that majority (or even a minority) might reasonably engage in a wide range of resistance movements, like sanctuaries, like civil disobedience, etc.

    Right?

    Right?

Which side will you be on?

    1. Oh, I agree that there one other option that exists . Walz just said the quiet part out loud when he called this equivalent to Fort Sumpter.

Rebellion, insurrection, whatever you want to call it is clearly on the table. Which your above seems to clearly support.

But who gave you the right to decide what the “majority” wants? It looks like 60% support removal of all illegal aliens. I suspect that the number is higher for the criminals y’all want to protect.

But I appreciate your clarity in supporting the violation of long standing federal law without even bothering to avail yourself of the legal means to do so.

I’ll be on the side that isn’t protecting killers, drug traffickers, rapists and the like. The side that welcomes immigrants who use legal means to come and who choose to assimilate, not those who lie, cheat, and steal billions from taxpayers and food from those in need.

      You’re welcome to that side.

  3. Your question would need acquiring permission from the very state from which one wishes to avoid the law as a sanctuary.

What the sanctuary cities and states are doing isn't much different from the "sovereign citizen" argument those same cities and states will not honor in a court of law. It's as if they got lessons from DoubleStandard Dan.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I see the similarities between the two. The ASPL argument is that they are involved in a noble cause and that their cause is so important that it justifies their actions.

The problem is that the sanctuary cities haven’t been taken to court yet.

  4. I do want to point out that other states/cities have more illegals being captured and deported than Minneapolis and yet Minneapolis is the only one with riots. Many have pointed out that the riots suddenly started when the billions of dollars is Somali fraud were discovered. Riot and keep the fraud out of the public eye!!!
No normal people are involved in the riots; the vast majority are paid protesters and the rest are far LEFT ignorant people who just do what the media tells them to do.

    1. I've made this/these points several times. The MSM is misrepresenting the scope of the local problems and implying that this is national in scope.

From what I've seen it's literally 9 counties in the whole country that are the problem.

  5. The list of abuses, beatings, shootings, killings, false arrests, false detentions, etc, etc and additional jackbootery is long and has happened across the nation. That is hasn't happened to you or in your sight doesn't mean it isn't happening. Some examples:

    Americans have been
    dragged,
    tackled,
    beaten,
    tased
    and shot by immigration agents.
They’ve had their necks kneeled on.
They’ve been held outside in the rain while in their underwear.
At least three citizens were pregnant when agents detained them.
One of those women had already had
the door of her home blown off
while Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem watched.

    About two dozen
    Americans
have said they were held for more than a day

without being able to phone lawyers or loved ones...

While the tally is almost certainly incomplete, we found more than 170 such incidents during
    the first nine months
of President Donald Trump’s second administration.

Among the CITIZENS detained are nearly 20 children,
    including two with cancer.

That includes four who were held for weeks with their undocumented mother and without access to the family’s attorney

    https://lailluminator.com/2025/10/17/ice-citizens-arrest/

And those were just the US citizens and from only one source and even before ALL THIS thuggism in Minneapolis.

Are you okay with ALL of that? ANY of that?

Does it not shame you that they kidnapped US children WITH CANCER and detained them?

How do you apologists read that sort of very short list and not vomit in embarrassment in what's being done in your name and with your support?

Not enough? Need more abuses by these thugs?

Among the detentions in which allegations have not stuck, masked agents pointed a gun at, pepper sprayed and punched a young man who had filmed them searching for his relative. In another, agents knocked over and then
tackled a 79-year-old car wash owner,
pressing their knees into his neck and back.

His lawyer said he was held for 12 hours and wasn’t given medical attention despite having broken ribs in the incident and having recently had heart surgery.

Piece of shit bullies and cowards.

And that was just ONE source. More to come.

    1. If you’d get half this worked up about the carnage, of victims harmed by illegal aliens, I’d consider taking you seriously.

Hell, if you’d have gotten this worked op when Clinton and P-BO were deporting and shooting significantly more illegal aliens, you’d gain a tiny bit of credibility.

Finally if you’d have been half this worked up about the tens of millions of un vetted, un vaxed, unknown, untracked, illegal aliens that poured across the border under Biden, your credibility might rise a bit.

But this, just makes you look bitter and angry because the DFL is making things harder to deport actual criminal illegal aliens.

  6. In Oregon:

    ICE has raided
    houses of worship,
    schools,

hotels, restaurants, farms, and retail stores.

“Communities across the state have been terrorized by masked, armed agents who are indiscriminately and aggressively harassing and kidnapping individuals at school, at work, on the streets, and in their homes,” the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota said Thursday.

US Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) wrote on social media following the shootings in Portland on Thursday that “ICE has done nothing to keep our communities safer.”

“ICE agents are terrorizing folks in Oregon and across the country,” he added. “I’m demanding full accountability—an investigation that involves Oregon officials—and ICE to immediately end these dangerous operations in Oregon...

A pregnant Illinois woman told Newsweek she thought her life was about to end when a federal agent pointed his gun through her car window, after she honked her horn to alert people ICE was nearby,” The Marshall Project reported.
    “In another incident in Chicago,
a combat veteran alleged in a court filing that a federal officer said
‘bang, bang’ and ‘you’re dead, liberal’ while pointing a handgun at him.””

On the same day as Good’s killing, ICE conducted a raid at a nearby Minneapolis high school. One local resident who witnessed the raid said
she saw “one teacher get tackled”
as educators and other school employees tried to keep the agents
    away from students.

The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers accused federal agents of using tear gas—which ICE has deployed frequently in recent months.

The Washington Post reported in November that federal immigration officers “have thrown chemical agents out of vehicles on city streets, creating a hazard for motorists.”

“They have thrown tear-gas canisters near stores and schools, exposing
children, pregnant women, and older people to the noxious gas,”
the newspaper added. “And on numerous occasions federal officers have fired pepper balls directly at protesters—in one case,
striking a pastor in the head.”

  7. Abuse of detainees in makeshift gulags:

Geraldo Lunas Campos spent months detained at Camp East Montana in El Paso, Texas before he died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.
His death has been ruled a homicide
after reports that an officer choked him during an altercation...

Like Campos, officers beat up Samuel,
    a detained teenager
who uses a pseudonym, so badly, he had to go to the hospital.
His right front tooth broke, and he said
one officer “grabbed my testicles and firmly crushed them,”
while another “forced his fingers deep into my ears.”

He added that weeks after the beating, damage to his left ear was so severe that he now has trouble hearing.

  8. Maimings, hospitalizations, false arrests, gassings, being shot point blank with "less lethal weapons," for the "crime" of protesting, verbal abuses, of course, an eye (or more?) being put out, and, of course, the killings.

“I will never see through my left eye again, not even light,” said 21-year-old protester Kaden Rummler, in a statement to the Associated Press. “I’m just glad I’m alive to tell my story.”

Rummler was maimed by a projectile fired by a federal officer at a recent protest in Santa Ana, California the AP reported.

    https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/20/us/protestors-tear-gas-pepper-balls

Look at the videos and photos, the blood, the maimings, the explosions, the gas attacks, the beatings... ALL on US cities and on predominantly peaceful protesters who, predominantly, are not the "illegal violent criminal aliens" these jackboots are allegedly after.

This is an administration that is out of control. Even THEY are having to back down and apologize for the slander and stupidly false claims they routinely made out of hand to defend the abuses of their jackboot villainous secret police force.

And you know I could go on and on detailing the NATIONAL harm and violence being waged across the US on immigrants (documented and not) and citizens. And, as repeatedly noted, more often that not, they DO NOT HAVE the warrants that they are required to have by law.

Just like the extrajudicial killings of people on boats in the ocean off of Venezuela. You can have a criminal deviant con man tell you, "Oh, trust me, they REALLY were bad guys..." and not offer ANY support for the claims and you trust him, you trust ICE, you trust the Felon's idiot enablers... and while you're trusting abusive, bad people, you're blaming peaceful protesters, pastors, children, youth, young adults, the elderly for the abuse and killings by the actual bad guys.

Blaming the victim is always a sign that you're on the wrong side of decency.

Oh, and as to the way your "heroes" are "protecting" US citizens by arresting "ALLL these violent criminals," that, too, is a damned stupid lie your con man is telling his useful idiots.

You’d get what you say you want, but choose not to acknowledge the reality.

    3. If they were here illegally, they were convicted of being here illegally. That might sound goofy, but it's true. They wouldn't be considered illegal aliens if they weren't actually illegal aliens and as they are illegal aliens, what more conviction than that is necessary? Anyone here but not a citizen must show they have a legal right to be here, by showing the documentation they're supposed to have on them at all times.

But just like the pervert fake Christian Dan Trabue, "DMPs" think they're entitled to accuse without evidence and do so with ICE and Trump.

And the constant claim that those ICE has had to force away from them are "peaceful protesters" is blatantly false. Truly peaceful protesters don't get in the way of LE and keep their distance from lawful LE operations. Getting in the face of LEOs trying to do their sworn duty, blowing whistles to disorient them, throwing ice, bricks, fireworks, etc. is not peaceful and even liars like Dan should at pretend to be Christian and admit that.

Everyone taken by ICE is illegal or released if proven to be otherwise. Period.

      Delete
    4. I agree that them being here illegally is still an offense and that the due process for that offense is deportation. That’s been settled law for decades.

The current problem is more about local law enforcement refusing to simply turn over illegal aliens who’ve committed more serious crimes. They’re correctly focused on dealing with the worst first then going from there.

That this has gone from peaceful protest to violence and interference is obvious. That they somehow think they deserve a pass is absurd. If they break the law, lock them up. See how long this lasts.

All the church members beaten and abducted (with NO warrant) by police were either guilty or eventually let go.

All the employees at the Heritage Foundation (with NO WARRANT) were either guilty or eventually let go.

Do you see the crime, the assault on human rights?

IT'S NOT OKAY TO BREAK DOWN DOORS, BEAT AND ARREST people in a sweeping secret police action in hopes that maybe one of the abducted is actually guilty. That is an assault on the people of a free Republic.

    1. If you are going to make outlandish claims, you need to support them.

Strangely enough, you've failed to invest much time or vitriol in left wing anti-ICE protesters invading a church and threatening those in attendance. I could be wrong, but preventing people from leaving a building that you've taken over sounds like it could be construed as kidnapping if the law is strictly applied.

No, I don't. I see the reality that people are regularly arrested or detained until investigations are completed and released if appropriate. Further, a warrant is NOT required for an arrest.

What I don't know, after Googling your accusations, is what in the hell you are talking about.

The problem I have with your rants is that you can't work up the tiniest bit of anger over (for example) people silently praying outside of an abortion clinic or the excesses of the DFL during the P-BO and Biden administrations.
