Gerrymandering

 On the gerrymandering front.

It sounds like TN DEFers are fighting to save a district represented by an old, white guy from being represented by a black woman.   All in the name of racial equity or some such nonsense.

In VA, the DFL is so angry that the state supreme court struck down their gerrymandering effort because it didn't follow the state law (and bypassed the commission charged with redistricting),  that they have decided that their best course of action is to change state law to completely replace the state supreme court with puppets who'll bless their illegal scheme.   Because democracy is the most important thing.

  1. The only way Demokrats win nowadays (especially) is to cheat. They are lawless. AND racist against blacks.

    3. Clearly idiocy runs amok and therefore must be aborted. Fortunately a comment isn't really a real comment until it's been approved out of moderation. Before then it's just a mishmash or random symbols with absolutely zero value.

  3. This didn't surprise me at all when I first heard of it. And really, what better can we possibly expect from that party?

  4. One thing I'd like to add about gerrymandering is the notion that "both sides do it". I think it's justified to insist that when the GOP redistricts, they're mostly doing it to correct abuses of the Dems the last time redistricting took place. And while it might be true that both sides do it for political gain, that's not to say correcting abuses doesn't benefit one side politically and that doing so is not righteous and just. I believe all states must, by law, restrict redistricting solely on population size alone, with no concern for the racial, political, social or religious leanings of the people within each district. Identify where the people are, and divide them by numbers alone. As of 2020, the average size is a bit over 750K per district, with a deviation tolerance of no more than 10%. I don't see how geography should make much difference.

    1. Every state decides how to structure districts. Sometimes they choose to stick with the intent of the founders, sometimes for naked political gain. Gerrymandering to correct previous gerrymandering, is still gerrymandering.

But it’s impossible to look at New England, IL, or CA and pretend like it’s not being done to screw GOP voters.

    2. I would agree, but that's why redistricting to correct previous gerrymandering isn't gerrymandering.
