Vegitarian Orcs (Updated)

"Fantastic. Gorsuch is (unwittingly) making my argument re Islam for me. If we’re truly to be a creedal nation, and we should be, then we must deny citizenship to any who cannot live by these words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident…” Outlawing Sharia isn’t enough. We must outlaw Islam and deny it the respectability and protection afforded it as a religion. It’s an ideology that, when practiced seriously, is fundamentally opposed not only to these sentiments in The Declaration of Independence, but to the entire Bill of Rights and the Constitution itself. To let waves of Muslims into this country is like the Hobbits letting Orcs into the Shire because they swore they were now vegetarians."

Another "Learing Center" and a "Muslims Only" event. What could possibly go wrong.

The obvious answer is to require that Muslims agree to forswear allegiance to any aspect of Islam that conflicts with US law or founding "creeds", but we know that Muslims have permission to lie about this sort of thing which is kind of sowing the seeds of their own destruction.

  1. It only sounds "aggressive" because they're questions and concerns you didn't expect to face. But that's what a good interviewer is supposed to do: ask the hard questions which the subject's comments and actions provoke.

    1. Yeah, I’ve never thought of the US as creedal, but it’s actually a pretty good description.

    1. I don't think that Gorsuch is "wrong", although I would agree that his claim is a bit simplistic. Clearly the ideas underlying his "creeds" do come from out English/Christian founders. Yet summarizing years of culture in a sound bite isn't really possible. His statements don't deny what led up to the "creeds", and I suspect that he'd likely acknowledge that the "creeds" come from that foundation. I suspect that Gorsuch is using the term "creed" in a less specific manner than the Church does as well. He doesn't appear to be claiming that adherence to these "creeds" is (or should be) required, but that they express the ideals of our country is an concise way.

This is one of those instances where the criticism is technically correct, but nitpicking. The point of the quote I posted is that Islam is contrary to the "We hold these Truths to be self evident..." "creed" Gorsuch is referring to.
