Eliminate The Threat

Dan, is his ignorance, has jumped on the fact that there were "10 shots" fired in the melee that resulted in Pretti's death.

First, I haven't seen evidence regarding the discharge of Pretti's "military grade" gun.  With the known problems with the P320 is is foolish to discount the possibility that at least one of the shots came from Pretti's "military grade" gun.

Second, one of the key aspects of any self defense training is that once you make the decision that firing your gun is necessary, you keep firing until the threat is eliminated.   Unfortunately there isn't some magic number of shots necessary to accomplish the goal of eliminating the threat.  The training is to keep pulling the trigger until there is no more threat, or until your slide locks open.

Third, in the confusion of the melee compounded by the tactics of the "protesters" intended to disorient the LE,  and the fact that there were multiple officers involved, it is not unrealistic to believe that each officer fired enough to eliminate the threat without knowing that another officer was duplicating those efforts.

It's easy to sit back and second guess those who have to make a life or death decision in a fraction of a second, in a situation filled with intentional disorientation beyond the immediate confrontation.

To be clear, this is not a defense of the number of shots so much as pointing out the obvious for the ignorant.   We don't have enough information to jump to these emotion driven conclusions and to start the inflammatory rhetoric.   We certainly don't have the ability to enter the minds of the officers and perfectly analyze how they perceived the situation.

  1. NRA's Rule #1:

Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

First rule? Failed. After their first three general rules, this is the next rule:

Know your target and what is beyond.

Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot.
Never fire in a direction in which there are people
or any other potential for mishap.
    Think first. Shoot second

This clearly didn't happen. THE MAN WAS NO THREAT. HE WAS UNARMED AND SURROUNDED BY INNOCENT BYSTANDERS.

This is grade school level STOOPID and I am certain, the more I read from right winger gun types, that this is NOT safe firearm management.

You're on the wrong side of reason, on the wrong side of history, on the wrong side of morality and on the wrong side of authoritarianism vs a free republic.

Save yourselves. Open your eyes. Stop being useful idiots of dangerous threats to our nation and world... people who are clearly motivated by power and money. Be on the side of the Helpers. Mr Rogers, Renee Good, Alex Pretti, etc, etc.

    1. The NRA bits you’ve clipped are BASIC instructions for beginning shooters, and for safety on a shooting range.

To pretend that LE and the military are somehow bound by these rules while in the performance of their duties is more of you showing your ignorance on the subject.

By all means continue to make your self look ignorant. It’s funny.

  2. Craig, missing the point:

That's just it! THIS WAS NOT A "life or death" situation. This is a situation where a peaceful legal protester helping a woman WHO HAD BEEN PUSHED to the ground by brutalists was himself, pushed to the ground, maced and then SHOT by a coward who was scared EVEN THOUGH there was never at any one point ANY THREAT TO HIM/THEM.

    That's what you're missing.

Pretti was not the threat. DHS was and continues to be.

IF you can't, in a heated moment when you are scared and cowardly and shitting your pants in fear, control that fear and not kill innocent people posing NO THREAT to you, then you are not qualified for that role.

The evidence is abundant that many if not all of these ICE brutalists are simply not up to the job. They bear all the signs of being little men cowards trying to compensate by their fear by brandishing guns and shooting when they get a little scared by peaceful protesters.

Abolish ICE. Hold the guilty accountable and END the secret police forces of the Felon in charge.

  3. This is why it’s very difficult to have even somewhat intelligent conversations on topics like this with you. Your fundamental ignorance about firearms makes you think that copy pasting some out of context lines from another website somehow makes you some sort of expert.

The problem with this entire line of argument you have is that you are trying to put yourself in a position As the judge and jury of what is legal.

I get that waiting for the actual legal process to pay out isn’t as much fun as working up some outrage on the Internet, but that’s the situation that we’re in.

I’ll dismantle your childish idiocy later, right now I’m driving through the epicenter of the revolution and I’m scared because I keep seeing people with masks on.

  4. And yet, you didn't say one damned thing to condemn team Felon from calling Pretti a terrorist looking to kill people.

You see, your problem is we can ALL SEE what happened. It's not hard to figure out, just like we've all SEEN and HEARD your pervert be clear about who he is and his overt greed and deviancies. You all keep asking us to ignore the clear evidence that is OUT there, available to all... to ignore the things that scholars and experts are telling us... to ignore reality and instead, trust a group controlled by overt authoritarians and corrupt conmen out to enrich themselves (which, again, we can SEE, it's not even secret how they're profiteering off of this in ways that would shame robber barons in the past...

You've been brought into a cult of evil and authoritarianism and are defending them IN SPITE of reality. Your calls to "wait... maybe we'll learn more..." would be more compelling if the deviant fascists on your side were also told the same thing.

But when they do it (and do it stupidly, in SPITE of reality), you remain silent and defend their lies. When we do it BECAUSE of the evidence and expert testimony and what we can see and hear ourselves, THAT you choose to condemn.

    Grow up. Wake up. Repent.

    Justice will judge you.

  5. Craig:

The problem with this entire line of argument you have is that you are trying to put yourself in a position As the judge and jury of what is legal.

The problem with this inane comment is that this is NOT what I'm doing. The American people (and people around the world - the UN/ICC are looking into bringing charges against the US ICE abusers) can SEE that there are problems with these abusive, extrajudicial ICE abuses. Legal experts can see it. We are not just individuals saying, "ohhhh, I, Dan Trabue, am the ONE who gets to decide and I'm saying "lock them up!"" (that would be your president who does that sort of shit). All the non-cultists are saying, WE CAN SEE there are, at least abuses of responsibility happening here and more likely, criminal actions.

When you try to isolate it and tell any one non-cult-member, "That's just YOU and you're trying to decide for everyone else..." you're part of telling the same lie... of defending the same abuses and authoritarianism.

Ultimately, it is becoming increasingly clear that 1/3 or so of the nation has been brainwashed in a cult-like system of abuse and you all are no longer thinking rationally or seeing reality for what it is.

You know, I guess, that the research shows that it's VERY difficult for cult members to become UN brainwashed and to see beyond what their cult leader tells them is the reality, right? How do you know you're not a deluded part of that cult, unable to see reality for what it is?

Rand Paul, Massie and many other conservatives see it. The UN and ICC sees it. More than half the nation sees it. It's not like this is a vast left wing conspiracy.

    1. When I read this hysterical rant, I’m pretty sure I can see who’s been brainwashed and is acting like a cult member.

I’m the one consistently saying that we need to stop rushing to judgement based on random internet “experts”, and let the process play out.

“Defund the police” worked so well for the left that it’s time to double down and ignore the reality that this isn’t happening in a vacuum.

  7. Those NRA rules Dan cites as if it supports his slanderous, hateful, grace embracing regarding the deaths of "decent moral progressives" ignores that they are not "rules" for the lawful use of deadly force, particularly in LE situations.

Here was a case of a quite possibly known aggressor (Pretti having engaged violently with ICE about a week prior, allegedly heard inviting violent action against himself) who again was obstructing LE and then resisting their lawful orders directed at him. Even without realizing he possessed a weapon, he is, particularly while being aggressively non-compliant, justly considered a threat and all movements by him then are necessarily regarded as potentially deadly. Add the realization he is carrying at least one weapon, and now the threat level is automatically...and again, justly and necessarily...escalated.

How can LE know he's not carrying a second gun if he continues to struggle against their lawful instructions? Any movement of his hand toward his waist or jacket suggests the potential drawing of a second weapon. He already had one (I'm only assuming he was disarmed at any point). It's not in the slightest unreasonable to fear he had another. He's non-compliant and struggling when he should be motionless.

Given this all happened within the span of perhaps 1 minute, Dan expects that perfection in the response of LEOs is not unreasonable. Dan would be wetting his panties were he in the situation of the LEOs.

  9. I’ll note the rank hypocrisy in Dan demanding that I rip Trump for something he said, which I already criticized, while Dan stays silent so often on all sorts of things.

I’m a limited person with limited time and limited bandwidth therefore I don’t comment extensively on everything Dan demands that I comment on. Especially when I’ve already been critical of the comment in question.

Strangely enough Dan doesn’t object, and actively participates in referring to federal law enforcement in multiple false, slanderous, and inflammatory ways.

    Pot, meet kettle.

  10. Scholarly research warning against this administration's authoritarian and even Nazi-like trends and policies. The point being, It's not like the tens/hundreds of millions who are concerned are just making things up. There are actual, observable, measurable things happening that demand paying attention to what clearly appears to be authoritarianism by this regime:

Increasing concentration of unchecked power in the executive branch, failure to address past harms, and noncompliance with international recommendations created the context currently being exploited and weaponized by a right-wing authoritarian regime. Motivated by racial and ethnic animus, operating without regard for the rule of law, and equipped with advanced technological tools, the new administration is positioned to supercharge the dissolution of human rights protections...

Chillingly, the government’s repeated and rising attacks on civil society as well as lawyers seek to erode the infrastructure of support for the most marginalized communities and to neutralize the very mechanisms by which government power can be checked and constrained.

    These patterns are familiar to
any reader of history or observer of comparative case studies in authoritarianism.

[Holocaust educator] Thompson said these actions parallel the Gestapo.

“[The Gestapo] really operated outside of the judicial system, and they relied very heavily on secrecy,” she said.

    1. None of this is in any way a truthful explanation of the actions of this president and is administration. It's just other assholes smearing him in the same way you do. More accurately, you're too stupid to think for yourself and do real research regarding the actions taken and their results, regardless of the actions themselves. Your embrace of hate relieves you of the adult responsibility and encourages you to believe whatever assholes like those you've presented here tell you to believe.

I'm not up for reading such drivel and lies. But I wouldn't be surprised that among them...perhaps all of them...are not really saying what you think they're saying. Yet it's not worth the time to find out. There's nothing whatsoever nazi-like, authoritarian-like, or fascist-like in anything Trump's been doing. You just hate, so you apply those labels like the lying POS you are and pretend you're fighting the good fight, the very thought of which makes me laugh.

    2. As we've seen the "scholarly research" world is increasingly filled with bad/lazy/fabricated research, I don't see how invoking this is an automatic win.

Further, I'd be fascinated to see the history of these "scholars" and their political leanings.

Further, why is "scholarly research" on current events some magic bullet to end all debate while "scholarly research" and consensus on Scripture carries zero weight at all?

It's interesting that all of the comparisons are made to NAZI Germany, when Castro's Cuba, Mao's China, The USSR, Pol Pot's Cambodia, Iran under the Ayatollahs, and any number of African countries would appropriate comparisons. I wonder why that is the only comparison ever made. Laziness, group think, brainwashing, sympathy, stupidity?

  11. Look, Dan found an echo chamber that he believes gives him the cover to lie, slander, and malign.

When I think of an authoritarian government, I think of a government where you get more time in prison for a social media post, than you for rape. Or I think of all of the ASPL threatening to jail anyone who voted for Trump, stack SCOTUS, or I envision what just happened in VA happening across the country.

As long as Dan can demonstrate a tiny bit of self control, I’ll let him post this off topic nonsense all day. He’s the one who looks like a brainwashed lemming.

    1. When I think of an authoritarian government, I think of a government which forces one to take an unproven drug or lose one's job...which stifles new media and censors social media when speaking of effective proactive treatments for a condition falsely described as akin to the Black Plague...which forces businesses to close unless the authoritarians deem one's business "essential"...which sends a dozen heavily armed FBI agents to arrest those who peacefully protested or prayed in front of abortion mills....which sends as many or more FBI agents to drag out of their homes in their bathrobes those who "crime" was being aligned with the authoritarian's political opponent...who stood by while his state level comrades unlawfully tried that political opponent for non-criminal activities.

I think of things like that when I think of authoritarian "nazi-like" government. And I could add more to this list and in the end, the current administration has done nothing remotely comparable.

    2. Yeah, because forcing people to take an unproven drug, or buy something that they don't want to buy is not authoritarian at all. Bingo on the actually peaceful protests at abortion mills. Strangely enough one political party just elected someone with an ACTUAL NAZI TATTOO.

I'm pretty sure that Dan was/is onboard with most or all of these authoritarian measures because they weren't done by Trump.
