Just wondering...as a citizen of MN, how long ago would you say it became obvious to you that the state was becoming a cesspool? I seem to recall you said the state had a budget surplus until Tampon Tim was elected. Was it about that time, or had the suicidal welcome to foreigners with no desire to assimilate already obvious prior to that loser becoming governor?

MN, like a lot of states suffers from an electorate which is concentrated in primarily one metro area. We are watching in real time what happens when unchecked far left ideologues run large cities and counties. MPLS is imposing an almost 12% hike in property taxes this year alone because they've driven large swaths of the business community away and downtown commercial real estate is tanking. On top of that the MPLS school district (which is failing to actually educate students by any measurable metric) is preparing to close @16 schools next year because the schools are operating at significantly below capacity and consolidating makes fiscal sense. This gives us the sob stories from parents who's kids are going to have to go to a different school (which I understand), but the alternative is even more property tax hikes for a failing school district with half full school buildings. Between open enrollment, some good private schools, and people moving to the suburbs the district is screwed and failing in it's basic function. Unfortunately, until they see the results of the government they continue to vote for, things won't change.
DeleteOnce you get out of the vortex, it's a lovely place to live. Once you get a bit further out, you can understand why people want to live here. I wouldn't object to the a secession movement which ceded everything but the SE corner of the state to South Dakota.
But it's definitely gotten worse in the 20 years we've been here, but we're established enough that moving would be hard.
Unless I had enough money for 30-40 acres around Midway UT that had water running through it, then I'd be out quickly.
