Hypocritical

Is it me is is it just the tiniest bit hypocritical for someone to claim that Trump's 100% legal, ethical, and common tax strategy is "unamerican"?

Does it make it in tiny bit more hypocritical for the person who said this to have been employed by tax exempt organizations for the majority of their working life, someone who's salary is entirely paid by people using the charitable deduction to avoid paying their fair share?  How about when some of these donors are really rich?

I've asked the same question in Facebook discussions. For some, they're trying to employ the "legal is not moral/ethical" angle, which doesn't work when one hasn't established anything immoral or unethical going on. At least not in the efficient understanding and application of the tax code.

I've also seen the argument advanced that since Hillary hasn't been convicted (or formally charged) that she hasn't actually done anything wrong. Yet, they don't seem to apply the same standard to Trump.

The other thing with the tax deductions is that everyone uses them to some degree to avoid paying taxes, and the tax code is arranged to encourage certain behaviors with these deductions. I also have to note that you can bet that the all of the rich liberal folks (Soros, Buffet, etc) have all done and do use the same deduction. It's just a silly distraction to avoid a serious discussion of our flawed tax code.

I don't think they even want to talk about the tax code so much as to denigrate and demonize Trump in as many ways as they can. But the point is a good one, because you know that should Trump respond, "OK. Then let's talk about changing to a flat tax if the tax code bothers you so much," then there'd be no more talk about his tax strategies. I base this on the fact that when pro-abortion proponents say, "What about rape and incest?", they stop asking when pro-life people respond, "We'll give you rape and incest if you'll give up the rest."

Exactly, like many things it's a way to dodge the substance of an issue while seeming to be engaged.
