Busses

I see a lot of my liberal friends posting a meme that compares voting to catching a bus.   The point is to emphasize that even if the bus doesn’t get you all the way from A to B, that you get on the bus anyway because it gets you closer to your destination than if you turn around and go back home.    Surprisingly to some, I completely agree.   You’ll never find the 100% perfect candidate, so you vote for the one you agree with more.

Where I find this amusing, is that it perfectly describes a lot of people I know who voted for Trump.   I’m wondering if they really understand (or care) that this meme applies both ways and that maybe we should be extending grace to people who don’t vote the way we do.  Maybe we could acknowledge that people have (in their own opinion) good, logical reasoning that informs their vote, and that they are not wrong, evil, racist,  or deplorable for their choice.

Maybe if we just acknowledged that the folx or the other side of the aisle are imperfect, fallible, sincere people who are voting for the candidate of their choice for their reasons.

When I was young, and went to vote with my parents, I’d ask who they voted for and they’d always tell me that our votes are private.    Maybe that’s not a bad thing, keeping our votes private.   Or if not, maybe we shouldn’t attack people and malign their character because of who they vote for.

If I’ve done this, my goal is to stop.

Please. "Where I find this amusing, is that it perfectly describes a lot of people I know who voted for Trump."

You are comparing apples and dogshit. If you're getting on the bus that doesn't get you all the way there but still heading there and the bus is legitimate, that's fine. If you're getting on the bus and the bus doesn't get you there but it runs down innocent people on the street along the way and the bus driver is racist, a rapist, an idiot and attacks the Free Press, then you don't get on that bus. There are lines that need to be drawn. Trump crossed those lines.

Actually, no I’m not. If you want to talk 2016, your comparing cat shit to dog shot, but that’s not the point.

The point, as you so predictably demonstrate is to recognize that this analogy equally applies to people on both sides, and that demonizing and spewing vitriol at people who make a different decision isn’t helpful or Christian.

Dan,

I have to say thank you, you can always be counted of for both amusement and predictability.

Your predictable rationing of grace only to those you deem worthy.

Which is balanced by your overflow of expletive laden vitriol to those not worthy of grace.

Of course, your blindness to anything that goes against your rose colored, Pollyanna view of the current progressive movement.

Finally, your inability to acknowledge that anyone you disagree with can’t possibly have a good, coherent, logical reason for reaching a different conclusion than yours.

Since your public behavior fits in so well with much of what I see in social media, it’s a miracle y’all think people will be drawn to your side of things.

Craig, " your comparing cat shit to dog shot,"

No, there is no comparison. Clinton is intelligent, rational, experienced, informed, deliberate, flawed, imperfect, somewhat dishonest in the way that too many politicians are, too power-hungry and a bit dorky.

Trump is a sexual predator. Full stop. No comparison.

Trump is a buffoon, an idiot who does not appear to read or be curious about anything. Full stop. No comparison.

Trump is a spoiled rich white boy with a troubled past who has had all his wealth handed to him and, beyond that, acquired more wealth by using and abusing his wealth and position to bully others into keeping him afloat financially. Full stop. No comparison.

Trump is a con man who does not appear to give a single damn about facts or truth. He twists facts and makes things up to rile unthinking people up into irrational fits of anger and fear. Full stop. No comparison.

Trump is amongst the most inept, corrupt and unfit - if not THE most inept, corrupt and unfit - man to ever run for president in our nation's history. Full stop. No comparison.

I could go on about his racism and his attacks on the free press, but you get the point. This is the problem with Trump supporters and defenders... they think that Clinton and Trump are somehow similarly flawed candidates. It's just the greatest con that Trump has ever pulled to get 1/3+ of the nation to buy that horse shit.

Clinton is/was flawed, imperfect, less than honest, etc. but she was not unfit for office, nor a sexual predator, nor an historical liar, nor a con person. Trump is all that and much worse. No comparison and those who continue to defend Trump using this tact will be an embarrassment to our nation's history and their children and grandchildren will ask them one day, "Why grandpa? WHY did you defend this atrocious man by comparing him to Clinton, suggesting she was somehow similarly bad?"

Repent. Save yourself. Don't subject your family to this shame.

I’ve documented Clinton’s instances of lies, racist comments, corruption, interfering in elsctions, and her complicity in enabling her husband to get away with multiple instances of sexual impropriety/assault/tape.

I’ve done this multiple times, you choose to ignore that reality. That’s not my problem.

I’ve been consistent in acknowledging Trumps problems, and I didn’t vote for him because of those failings. The fact that you’ve chosen not to adopt a realistic view of Clinton isn’t my fault. Neither is the fact that you choose vitriol, expletives, and attacks over grace and understanding.

Apples and dog shit. The candidate YOU continue to defend is dog shit. You continue to defend him each and every time you make this transparently partisan and exceedingly stupid suggestion that Clinton's shortcomings are anywhere equivalent to Trump's historic levels of corruption.

You are an embarrassment to your children and a source of shame to your grandchildren, one day.

Interesting that you attack me for “false claims”, while making false claims about me.

It’s not my fault that you choose to ignore the entirety of Clinton’s corrupt behavior. Especially since the bulk of Clinton’s behavior has been in the course of her elected or appointed public service. The fact that all you’re left with is your inability to understand that it’s possible to acknowledge the reality that both of the 2016 candidates were shit, without supporting either of them.

Your commitment to falsehood over reality is concerning, especially for one who claims to be a Christian and who talks about (but doesn’t demonstrate) grace.

It's amusing to see Dan lie about those he considers a great liar. But then, he's embracing grace again.
