Haiti Update

I've had some updates on my friends who are still in Haiti.  Fortunately the area they are in is not seeing the same level of violence and gang activity as Port Au Prince.   However, they are already experiencing shortages of vital supplies, and increased costs.  The staff in one of the compounds has evacuated to the US through the DR, and will probably remain there indefinitely.    It's important to remember that these people provide desperately needed food for hundreds of people daily, provide medical care that is virtually unavailable within a reasonable distance, provide a 24 hour birthing center which keeps pregnant women form having to walk or ride (in the back of a tap tap) a minimum of 8 miles, schooling for a multitude of children, and an orphanage.   All of these services will be jeopardized over the coming days or weeks.

Then we find out today that the Biden State Dept has no plans to evacuate Americans who remain in Haiti.  That's right, we have US citizens who are staying in Haiti to provide needed services to the poorest of the poor (or "the least of these") and the Biden administration just announced that they were washing their hands of those citizens.   Strangely enough, the Biden administration has apparently been providing free flights for Haitians (at least one violent criminal) into the US.   It's almost like the Biden administration is placing the citizens of other countries over citizens of the US.  Hell, the Biden administration is already making preparations to welcome thousands(?) of Haitians to south Florida over the next few weeks/months.

But hey, US citizens in Haiti, y'all are on your own.

I can't find info about Biden administration saying it won't help US citizens in Haiti. I do see that the GOP is blocking aid to Haiti...

"The Biden administration just sent top Republicans in Congress its plan for helping Haiti this afternoon as it tries to convince them to drop a hold on $40 million that would help send security to Haiti."

And Ron DeSantis sending "troops " to block Haitian immigrants...

"It’s a hazardous journey, it’s not worth doing and we have the resources that are going to continue to keep the people of Florida safe,” he said.

On Wednesday, the governor announced he would be deploying over 250 state officers to secure the Florida border from potential migrants entering from Haiti."

But yes, we should be taking efforts to provide assistance.

There's no doubt that Americans don't rate in the minds of Biden, the Dems and even some of the GOP. That's a given. I saw one chump of the administration stating they are not planning on doing anything special to aid Americans there because of how long the State Department has warned against travel to Haiti...as if all Americans there have gone to spend sunny days on the beach sipping tropical drinks. This admin is a total clusterf**k and some people have the audacity to think another four years is deserved. Morons all.

There you go, actual video and everything. I understand, Google is hard.

So, because the Biden Administration threw together something (which is not how government works) and sent it over to congress, the fact that it wasn't immediately passed is 100% the GOP's fault. that is quite the impressive stretch there.

Yes, DeSantis is doing what the Biden administration won't do. Control access across our borders. Keeping his constituents safe, how horrible.

I'll note that you've made a huge assumption about De Santis actions, and are acting as if your assumption is True absent any evidence.

Art,

I just heard about an American non profit which is going in to Haiti, and flying US citizens out via the DR in helicopters. The apparently did the same thing to Americans abandoned in Afghanistan.

While there are tourist areas that I would love to visit in Haiti, the notion that the Americans being hung out to dry. are tourists who naively ignored the warnings is ridiculous. I'd be willing to speculate that the majority of Americans still there are people involved in missions.aid work, and that pulling them out will result in Haitian suffering.

I saw someone who said that they could take 50 retired military in and clean this up quickly. I honestly believe that it wouldn't take much for the US to send troops in and eradicate these gangs pretty quickly. It doesn't sound like it's much outside of Port Au Prince, so it seems feasible to institute some sort of containment around the city and go from there.

As I said earlier, I'd actually be OK with leaving them to sort it out for themselves Hunger Games style. Beyond that, it's not unreasonable to expect France to play a big role in dealing with this. Maybe, we could send social workers.

I was asking about an actual journalistic or governmental source. Not bubblebathgirl on Twitter.

But thanks. I hope your friends are safe.

Craig,

Yeah...I find it hard to believe there's been much tourism there in the past decade or so. I'd make the same wager about why the lion's share of Americans are there and what they're doing.

"Maybe, we could send social workers."

This is genius!! They've already defunded the police! They can get right to what works with violent criminals...counseling! They'll be planting flower beds by the end of the day!

Dan continues to reject anything as unreliable unless it comes from any of the unreliable enemies of the people he defends and enables.

One thing that's always puzzled me about Haiti was the fact that they were unable to capitalize on the fact that much of the country is beautiful. Outside of Labadee, there isn't much regular tourist activity.

Thanks, obviously social workers are the answer in both Haiti and Gaza.

When I post a X link, it's for one of two reasons. I either think that the post has a point of view that is worth sharing or is well stated, or it's because there is an embedded video that makes a point. Dan has demonstrated that he is unwilling to consider the reality that Truth can be reported in other places besides the MSM. His bitching about the source of something, without regard for the Truth of the report, says a lot about his priorities.

I noticed over the last week or so, that when I'd bring up the crisis in Haiti I would get blank stares and questions about what was going on there. My suspicion is that the MSM hadn't done a lot of reporting on Haiti at that point and that people hadn't heard. Which seems like a sad commentary on the MSM. If they aren't reporting the takeover of a country that is close to the US and which is likely to cause a wave of immigrants, that makes me wonder.
