OK, I'm not

Someone who goes in for conspiracy theories, but I do read a lot.  One thing I've noticed is that often authors come up with plots that end up being very similar to reality.

Consider this.  If Brad Thor or Kyle Mills wrote a book about China trying to damage the US by releasing an unknown virus during an election year, most readers would think that it was plausible and realistic.   I'm not suggesting that this is actually what's happening, but it's certainly not unthinkable that the leadership in China might think it's worth it to get Biden elected.   The more I think about it, it's kind of perfect.  This virus is potentially more disruptive than deadly and ...

Anyway,  it's an interesting thing to consider.

I don't think we can put it past them to try such a ploy. They're already known for their human rights violations, so offing a few thousand of their own to get the ball rolling doesn't seem problematic, as there are plenty more Chinese where they came from.
If I'm not mistaken, they're looking into the possibility, or possibly should be, just to be on the safe side. Imagine the international outcry if they were reasonably suspected!

I wouldn't doubt that there are people looking into the possibility. Most of the fiction authors would make this about something more deadly (Ebola or other hemorrhagic fevers) and about trying to kill large numbers of people. In this case it's not scary deadly and it started in China where they lost a lot of victims. So, it's a lot more deniable and sinister. It would be more about creating chaos, than killing people.

The above is all theoretical and my perspective on haw it would work in a novel.

The thing that militates against this theory, is the timing. If it's designed to get Biden elected, they've given Trump too much time to lead the response and get through the crisis. This is what Clinton whined about after 9/11. That he didn't have the "opportunity" that Bush had to lead through a crisis.

It's interesting to speculate and to think about how close some fiction is to reality.

Sure, the timing wasn't perfect. Then again, perhaps it's release wasn't part of the plan...an unforeseen variable or mistake on the part of a now executed participant of the plot.

Or maybe we should write our own novel.

Maybe we should. I’ve actually thought about it.
