I think that they really believe that they represent progress, and that progress is always 100% good. It's clearly a situation where blinders affect their perceptions
Their notion of "progress" is more than a little suspect. Getting what you want isn't progress if what you want results in negative consequences. How have we progressed if getting what we want leads to more and worse problems? This has been the history of leftist "progress" for quite some time.
