Art

Art, I wish to offer you my heartfelt apologies.   I know that you were anxiously awaiting the Bears signing Trey Smith to bolster your offensive line.  Unfortunately, it appears as though KC has used the franchise tag on him.   I guess there's still hope that y'all could trade for him.

I thought he'd have been gone.  I think that 1 year #23 million is a decent deal for him, even though he'll earn more on the open market.

Well, he ain't the only fish in the sea. Given how the Eagles manhandled the Chiefs O-line, letting him go doesn't seem like it would've been a smart move, given he's considered one of the best at his position.

I agree that it'd be great to keep him. I just recall him being someone you'd have liked to see in a Bears uniform next year.

In all fairness, it's possible that they will now trade him and at least get something back for him. Or that'll keep negotiating and extend him longer term.

But $23 million for one of the best guards in the NFL seems like a pretty good deal.

Yes. I most certainly did hope to see him in Chicago. Given our porous O-line, why wouldn't I? He plays on the right, doesn't he? Or can he play both sides (some guys can't and it amazes me)? I want Williams' blind side protected first, if possible, but any upgrade is worth whatever they have to pay. I had heard that this time around, the McCaskey's are prying open the wallets in a manner uncharacteristic of them. We'll see if that holds true.

He's always played on the right, no idea if he can play both sides.
