War Powers

There's been a lot of uproar over Trump's decision to bomb Iran's nuclear weapons manufacturing facilities.   One of the major "arguments" against Trump's action is that he lacks constitutional authority to do so.  Another is that Iran hasn't killed enough US citizens.   The final one I've heard is that Iran has illegally smuggled "sleeper teams" across the border over the last 4 years and that this might cause Iran to set them loose.

I'll deal with the last one first.   If Iran has inserted "sleeper teams" into the US with the intent of engaging in attacks on US targets, that in itself is justification for an preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.  A nuclear Iran could set loose these "sleeper teams" with impunity if they had nuclear weapons and the ability to deliver them.  That this argument is an implicit acknowledgement of the failure of Biden's border policy also seems like a bad choice to hang your hat on.

The US hasn't had a congressional declaration of war since WW2,  and yet we've been involved in multiple wars since then.   This is simply a manifestation of TDS and a failure to acknowledge that an Iran with nuclear weapons is a threat to the planet.  That so many on the left fail to be consistent on this issue is not surprising.

The outrage by the TDS sufferers is not at all surprising, despite how dishonest it all is. At the start of the sermon at the church I now attend, the pastor spoke of the strike on Iran by this administration in terms of it being a sad necessity. That's what it is, and it was made so in large part due to the actions of both Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the latter of which might be the worse of the two given how economically on the ropes the mullahs were because of Trump. Biden, in re-instituting Obama's suicidal treaty with Iran, is believed to have played a role in not only accelerating their development of nuclear weapons (crippled by Trump sanctions), but the funding of so many terrorist attacks on Israel during the Biden years...especially Oct 7, 2023.

Iran's been an increasing danger since they took our people hostage in 1979 during the presidency of yet another incompetent Democrat president. Since that time, Iran's proven to be less than honorable with regard to agreements and aggressive as hell with chants calling for our death and that of Israel.

Now we have a president who won't F around when such blatant threats, such clear and present dangers, escalate as they have been with Iran since Carter. We did nothing when N Korea sought to acquire nukes, and they're constantly testing their delivery systems, which threaten their part of the world. This time it's even worse because the mullahs and other islamic wackjobs are intent in trying to bring about the end times, whereas Rocket Man doesn't want to die.

With all this...which is the barest of presentations of the danger of Iran...Trump-haters still feel they're on the side of righteousness and truth in criticizing Trump for this most necessary action, despite the potential consequences attached to it. But it's as much as guaranteed that the consequences of allowing Iran to fulfill its nuclear ambitions are far more dire.

Trump-haters are just that stupid.

There is clearly not a shred of consistency or decency on the part of those selectively applying the war powers section of the constitution. It is pure and simple TDS. You know that if Harris would have done this (an absurd hypothetical) that they'd be cheering her.

As you note and as has amply been documented, Iran has been at war either directly or via proxies with the US since 1979 and the list of direct incidents and deaths is well publicized. That Iran regularly spouts "Death to America" and "Death to Israel", and refers to the "Great and lesser Satan" when talking abut the two countries, it is absolutely stupid to argue that Iran is not at war wit both.

The bigger issue is that when a country gets nukes, they get clout. It's one thing to negotiate with Iran now, but something else if they get nukes. They'll go freaking nuts.

It would be one thing if they disagreed with Trump on this, that's ok, but this insane level of support for Iran is completely unhinged.
