One of my criticisms of Trump in his first term was his inability to actually hire the best people he promised he'd hire and put them in positions of authority. It's good to know that Trump agrees with me.
In his Rogan interview he was clear that he was expected to bow to donors and others in filling positions and he didn't know how to navigate that situation so he went along. It's still disappointing that he gave in, but at least he's acknowledging it.
This time around he's doing things totally differently. He's self funding his transition team and focusing on who he brings in, not on who he's expected to bring in. He's been intentional in including some who are not 100% on his "side". He's also refused intel briefings which prevent him from being accused of leaking the information he's given there.
IMO, both of those things seem to be positive and should bode well if he wins.

It's not like people like him don't make mistakes. It's that they are less likely to make them a second time. Even by having gone along, he may still felt as if he was recruiting the best people. He found out he was wrong and now he's more wary. Hopefully we'll be able to tell the difference.
Hopefully that is the case. For him to even admit that he was wrong seems like a step in the right direction.
