Cease Fire, Closing Argument

It appears that there is finally a cease fire deal in place between Israel and Gaza.   I haven't seen a lot of details, but there is the return of some/all of the hostages, along with the cessation of hostilities.  I'm obviously pleased that the hostages are finally going home, despite the fact that to many of them are being returned dead.   I'm ambivalent to the cease fire because Hamas will spin this as a victory against the Zionist oppressors, when it's much closer to a defeat for them.   Three thoughts on this news.

1.  This looks a lot like the return of the hostages by Iran.  A last minute capitulation in order to avoid the harsher consequences of a Trump administration.   The reality is that Trump gets some credit for this, and I doubt we'll ever know how involved his representatives were.

2.  If I had to guess, I suspect that Hamas will violate this cease fire first.  Because that's on brand for them.  Start a small war, get the crap kicked out of them, whine about being oppressed, finally hide behind a cease fire to rearm.

3.  Any deal that leaves Hamas in control of Gaza is a bad deal.

Biden gave his farewell address last night and whined about billionaires taking over, as if there weren't more billionaires supporting Harris than Trump and we haven't had Soros, Zuck, Gates, and the like involved in leftist politics for the last 4 years.  He also whined about multiple things that he wants to ban (Dark money, congressional stock trading, etc), yet that he's done nothing about for the last 12 years.  (really 50, but who's counting)    The fact that he thinks that trying to condemn these things as he shuffles out the door is somehow going to make him look good is absurd.   The entire Biden/Harris campaign seems based on the notion that they'll do all kinds of stuff that they ignored if only they'd get elected again.

Good riddance.

I don't think the Israel/Hamas deal was all that good for Israel.

Even without any details, I assumed it wasn't very good for Israel. Given that Biden was going to pressure Israel to take a crappy deal so he could have one "accomplishment", you knew Israel was going to take it in the shorts.

I suspect that they were more open to a bad agreement is that they know that Trump will be more supportive of them going forward and because they know that Hamas is stupid enough to violate the cease fire and give them the opportunity to finish the job.

I didn't listen to Biden's BS address. I was already feeling kinda nauseous.

As to the "deal", there should be no "deal". That there is I would wager is the result of Israeli leftists, who are as stupid as any other leftist. Hamas launched an unjustified, unprovoked attack on Israeli citizens and at the first moment Israel learned of their whereabouts...even if not exactly...the "deal" should have been as follows: Bring every damned hostage to us, as well as the bodies of those you murdered and verifiable explanation for the whereabouts of those unaccounted as alive or dead. Fail to do this within 48 hrs, and there will be no Gaza.

Given they didn't do that, I agree with two points, one made here:

1. Israel is well aware the Gazastinians will go back on their word and at that point, Israel can take them all out in whatever means they feel best.

2. For those hundreds of Gazastinian murderers released as an exchange, Israel can track them and take them out later.

I didn't either, just saw some summaries. I'm laughing that the guy who's bitching about an oligarchy of billionaires gave Soros the medal of freedom after Soros bought @200 radio stations and Biden fast tracked the sale for him.

As to whether or not there "should" be a deal, that's a whole other question. I don't disagree that Israel could reasonably hold out for unconditional surrender as the Allies did. Of course, your hypothetical sounds like a "deal".

1. Absolutely. Not only that, but it's likely that Trump will allow them to rearm in anticipation of round 2, and Trump might be more helpful than Biden.

2. It could be argued that freeing them, to be killed later, is a better situation than having them in prison.

Of course the point of mentioning the deal was that Trump pushed things forward because of his position, much like Regan pushed the hostage release.
