Remember when everyone got all worked up because they shut off the money spigot at USAID, well maybe they were wrong. It's looking like there actually was fraud there. I don't know but I think it was probably a good idea to pull the plug and evaluate before any more cash got wasted.

Indeed, it looks like a handful of rich people sought to enrich themselves at an agency intended to help the poor and marginalized. THOSE PEOPLE who committed crimes should be punished and, where possible, made to pay back all that they profited from the con and more.
But the poor people relying on the aid we provide are NOT guilty in any of that. We should not punish them for the crimes of a few rich profiteers.
Indeed, ALL profiteering off of public office - rich people getting richer at any agencies like this or presidents using/abusing their power to enrich themselves, should be punished and removed from that position. Period.

That is a noble sentiment. Yet you seem opposed to the mechanism that achieved this laudable result. Given the reluctance of previous administrations to actually dig into what USIAD money was being used for, and the increasing evidence that USAID money was being funneled into ONGs that were financially supporting the DFL and DFL candidates, it's too bad that the way to find this fraud is to pause shoveling billions of dollars out the door. Had it not been for Trump, Musk and DOGE how much longer and how many more millions would have been siphoned off. Had it not been for DOGE it seems likely that we wouldn't know about this, and it's possible that you'd have supported the ONG these guys worked for.
It might be hard, but this might be an instance where you could acknowledge that the Trump administration has some something positive.
