This is one more rare WNBA post from me.
As the season is winding down we've seen multiple players and coaches blast the league leadership and officials for failing to do their jobs. Obviously the league is fining the outspoken people, but it seems clear that the league leadership sucks right now.
It obviously makes no sense to trash talk your most marketable player, and when the talk about bad officiating is coaches complaining about calls made on the other team or how other players get screwed, maybe it's time to take things seriously.
I 100% believe that a women's professional basketball league should exist, but I think that the current nightmare is probably not the correct format. If I was one of the top 10 players in the league right now, I'd be actively looking for backers for an alternative to the WNBA (that's not a 3 on 3 league). I canot believe that there aren't investors who'd love to invest in a league with Collier, Buekers, Clark, and the rest. As they are negotiating a new CBA, the players and coaches do have a degree of power and having an alternative gives them more. Yes, the talk about how the WNBA players should get paid as much as the NBA is stupid. Yet, they probably should be getting more money as the league gets better TV deals.
In general I don't watch NBA/WNBA unless there's nothing else on or if the Wolves/Lynx are deep in the playoffs, but I do find the off season drama in the two leagues to be more interesting than the actual season.
Finally, not giving the KC ownership group an expansion team was incredibly stupid. This is the same group that owns the women's soccer team, and have done a phenomenal job with that.
