There's been al lot of talk about DEI recently.  I think that those who have a problem with is are concerned that things like group status is given more weight in areas where competence is very important than it should be.   When students applying to medical school, for example, are accepted with lower qualifications, that raises legitimate concerns for two reasons.   1.  The disproportionate number of these students who can't hack it and drop out, saddled with massive debt and wasted years.   2. The quality of Drs and their ability to serve their patients.  Medicine, engineering, and other STEM professions are based on the objective.   We don't want someone who only got admitted to school based on DEI, and was bottom third in their class designing a bridge or operating on someone's brain.   Certain fields of study have traditionally have been difficult to enter because of the high stakes of the work.    Again, we want the best qualified people designing critical infrastructure, airplanes, and doing highly technical surgeries.    If I get on a plane and was told that the pilot barely qualified and that this was their first flight, I'd justifiably be more concerned than if I knew that the pilot qualified as one of the best and had been flying for 10 years. 

The problem with DEI is that it's treated as if it's an objective, important, metric in fields where it should be tertiary at best.    I don't want the "best" Dr from a group that scores lower on all metrics, I want the best Dr available, regardless of their demographic makeup.  

Eventually, we'll see patients who are harmed because some medical school graduated a student who was poorly qualified based on DEI.   Eventually we'll see lawsuits against everyone involved.  In short, it's not so much opposing DEI in all circumstances, it's elevating DEI over things like grades and competence where people have problems.  

Apparently there was a significant study done to measure the effects of DEI training, and the results were not positive for the DEI worshipers.  Shockingly the MSM chose to not report on this study and hoped that no one would find out.    For someone like Dan who reveres the MSM, this seemingly automatically disqualifies this study from having any validity.   I know that this is a strange and bizarre position to take, but there it is.  Dan will likely poo poo this study, while likely choosing not to read any of it, nor will he offer any substantial critique of the study or it's methodology.

I agree with this statement, to some degree.  However, the best way for a "trans" kid to become a "happy adult" is to not make them undergo irreversible medical procedures.   The best way to get a "happy adult" is to leave them the hell alone and let them grow up.   The data shows that the vast majority of "trans" kids grow up and decide that they are not "trans".   Why subject them to irreversible physical changes when the likelihood is that they'll be more unhappy when they grow up?

I know that in the aftermath of Harris' defeat the left and the pundit class is having a field day finding demographic groups to heap scorn and blame on for Harris' loss.  No question, young guys are one of those groups.

But, if we look at this a little deeper, we have a generation of boys/young men who've been raised in a world where masculinity is toxic, all men are potential rapists, women have passed men in things like college admissions etc.   This doesn't seem like it is healthy for the individuals who are raised in this climate, nor for the country.  

One other point, historically in the US one of the rites of passage for the young is to rebel against something.   To be different from previous generations and piss off their parents.    Music, clothes, hair, drugs, smoking, drinking, have all been areas where this rebellion has shown up.  Now in a world where the left owns education, the MSM, much of social media, and most of the culture, this is how these guys are rebelling.

 I've got a bunch of post election stuff and just haven't been motivated to post it.  Maybe I will sometime this week.

However, one thing I've seen quite a bit is people telling the world that they've completely broken off contact with family and friends who voted for Trump.   Many of these people were pretty nasty.   Surprisingly many of these people claim to be christians.   Strangely enough 3 of the identifying principles of a cult are as follows

1. Isolating members and penalizing them for leaving
2. Seeking inappropriate loyalty to their leaders
3. Dishonoring the family unit

There are a lot of Harris supporters out there who sound exactly like this, shouldn't that at least speak a bit of concern?   

Strangely enough Jesus actually addressed this pretty directly.   He said that loving those who love you, is pretty easy.  That even the pagans do that.   His followers were called to a higher standard.  He told them to love their enemies, and those who persecute them.   Back in the day, their enemies could absolutely make their lives miserable, or could kill them.   Jesus was telling His followers to love those who could kill them.   Now we have christians advocating the complete opposite of this, they advocate hating those who voted differently and separating ourselves over politics.  

   

That doesn't really sound much like Jesus at all.  

NFL Again

 As I watched the NFL this weekend, it's becoming clear which teams are completely out of the running for the playoffs.   The Jets, Pats, Raiders, Browns, Titans, Jags, Giants, Cowboys, Saints, and Panthers are pretty much totally out of things.    My question is at what point do those teams start to focus on draft position and next year?   When do they start playing more back ups to see what they have?  When do they just start to tank for the #1 pick?  

It seems like it would be hard for professional athletes to just stop playing hard, some of them are playing for incentives and contracts, so they'd want to play hard and well.  Others are probably beat up enough to start thinking that some load management would keep them from getting hurt.   Obviously Jerry Jones isn't going to stand for tanking because he's nuts.    But teams who've lost key players to injury or just suck have to look to the future.    

Next years draft isn't as QB heavy as this years, but there are a couple that look good.   For teams like the Raiders, Giants, Browns, Saints, Panthers, and Jets, drafting a great QB would be a really good move.   For the others, high draft picks in key positions allow for a lot of cap flexibility at other positions.  In any case, looking to the future seems like a good idea at some point.

What of the Bears, Seahawks, and Rams?   Many think that either of the NFC West teams have a pretty good shot at the playoffs, but does getting to the playoffs to lose in the Wild Card round actually do much to help for the future?    The Bears are an interesting team, they have lots of talent, and lots of that talent is young.    Many thought they'd be a lock for the playoffs and maybe even a trip to the NFC championship game, but they haven't been able to ride a relatively easy front part of their schedule to enough wins to have much hope as things get tougher.   If it was me as their GM, I'd be pushing to see depth players get game reps and shooting for a top 5-10 draft pick and getting O-line or Wide Receiver help.   I'd probably draft a couple of O-line deeper in the draft as well.   Again, tons of talent already there and they can set themselves up for the future depending on what they do this year.

Fear

 I'm seeing something that fascinates me, it's the claim that if the Department of Education is disbanded that "support" for autistic students will automatically disappear.  

The reality is that those who want to get rid of the Department of Education (which has presided over worse outcomes in virtually every metric), realize that there are legitimate programs that legitimately should be funded at the federal level.    What they really want to get rid of the the bureaucracy of the dept and then allow local entities to use federal grant money to fund the programs that their students benefit from the most.  The problem is the rigid, top down, one size fits all approach when unelected bureaucrats impose mandates on every school district despite their differences.  

The FY 2024 budget request for the DOE is $79.1 billion dollars.  Shockingly there doesn't seem to be an easily accessible number to determine the overhead.     But, since most businesses shoot for 35% overhead let's use that.    So we have almost $28 billion that doesn't go to students anyway, which doesn't include salaries/cost of employment.  22.5% of revenue for salaries etc is the middle of the normal range (15-30%), so let's use that to add an additional $18 billion.     I'd bet that virtually every position at the federal DOE duplicates a position at a state DOE, which leads to the conclusion that much of what the federal DOE does is redundant anyway.   

So, theoretically we could save $46 billion and still leave the same amount going out the the states.  We could even increase the amount going out to the states to $50 billion and save almost $30 billion.

In short, no one is suggesting that funding for autism programs be eliminated.   This is just one more scare tactic by the DFL because their other scare tactics failed to get Harris elected.  

FYI, I'm not definitively suggesting that the DOE be completely eliminated.   What I am suggesting is that every governmental function should be examined for effectiveness and those that are not effective be significantly restructured or eliminated.   It's more about using OPM effectively and efficiently than about an increasing number of redundant highly paid federal bureaucrats getting raises every year

 Beyond the unhinged screaming and ranting that plagued social media over the past couple of days, this was also a trend.  Woman after woman pledging solidarity to the 4B movement as a way to "punish" men for Trump winning.  

The first and most obvious thing to be taken from this is that these women do have the ability to control themselves,  and to not rack up huge body counts, is they choose to do so.   In other words, they could exhibit self control and not engage in risky sexual behavior and court pregnancy, but until now they simply have chosen not to.

Second, many of these women are simply unattractive.  Whether it is physically, stylistically, or behaviorally, they are not going to be sexually attractive to the sorts of men they seek to "punish".   As if not having sex with a 350 lb, tattooed, purple haired, pierced, screeching, harridan is some sort of punishment.  

Third, if they are actually able to fulfill their commitment, it could actually reduce the need for abortion. 

Fourth, this "extreme" fringe of liberals seems determined to eliminate themselves simply by not reproducing.  Between LGBTQXYZPDQ+-+, abortion on demand, "transing", and now this, it seems like there will be fewer of these types of people with every passing generation.

Fifth, it's ironic to see these women so fiercely embracing abstinence after ridiculing the notion that abstinence was even possible.

Sixth, the kind of guys that voted for Trump aren't going to be attracted to or want to have sex with these women anyway.    The kind of guys that are attracted to or want to have sex with these women are now going to be pushed towards voting for conservatives because they're being "punished" and blamed for one more thing that isn't their fault.  

I encourage more women to take this pledge and to take themselves out of the pool of sexually available women.

Introspection

   

 

Among a lot of screaming, crying, whining, threats to leave the US, and blaming various minority groups yesterday this actually showed some signs of self awareness.   

Some have described is essentially conservative and I can see why.   The question is whether or not the far lest extremists that currently control the DFL can put their ideology aside and actually reflect on what was communicated in this election.   I firmly believe that in many demographics it was an emphatic repudiation of the extreme leftist agenda and (as Bernie put it, abandoning the working class), more than an enthusiastic endorsement of Trump as a person.    While I'm happy with the outcome in my opinion, it was influenced as much by the complete failure of the DFL to run an attractive candidate with a compelling vision that included a majority of Americans, as by people wholly endorsing Trump.  

As we go through the next 4 years and people realize that the horrible things predicted are not happening, that fascism isn't taking over, that swastikas don't hang from the White House, and the abortion hasn't been completely banned, maybe they'll start to question the narrative they were fed and start to question things going forward. 

Strangeness

 In one of the most bizarre bits of information that came from the vote yesterday, the DFL candidate for president has been pretty consistent in getting roughly 65 million votes going back for 10-15 years.  Except Biden who they say got 81 million.   One has to wonder where those millions of votes came from and what happened to them. 

It’s Over

 I’m in training all day, so this’ll be quick.

Trump won a convincing victory, he has a mandate by any previous definition. Now the onus is on him, and the GOP to deliver and do so promptly.    

The left is going to have to face the reality that their plan of smearing Trump with discredited bullshit failed, that they lost significant portions of their traditional base, and that the hellscape they predicted will not actually come to pass.

The MSM has to decide if being the tool of one political party is a good strategy going forward.

It’s hard to whine about the Electoral College, when you lose the popular vote.

My old employer will likely be at a standstill today as the cry rooms and safe spaces will be packed.  

It would probably be a good idea if Trump supporters chose not to act the way Biden supporters have for the last 4 years, or how Harris supporters likely would be acting had she won.   The election is over, it’s time to get to work for the entire country, not demonize those who supported Harris.

If Harris loses, I don't know how I'll find content without the stupidity of Harris and her supporters.  

We keep seeing footage of various cities preparing for violence after the election.   I'd suggest that there's a better chance of Harris supporters getting violent celebrating her winning, than of Trump supporters if he loses.   

It'll be interesting to hear the response if Harris loses.   There are too many people who praised Biden, right up until they threw him under the bus, then praised Harris as if she was the very best an brightest available.    If she loses,  I wonder what their excuses will be and how they'll excuse any violence and destruction that might happen from her supporters.

Both NBC and Harris engaged in a knowing and intentional violation of FCC rules.    

 While this instance needs to be dealt with, it does bring up a larger issue.   

 

Is (essentially)  giving the "broadcast" networks a license to use the public airwaves still a reasonable public policy in 2024?    Back when broadcast TV was the only option, the FCC rules made sense.    The airwaves were held in a public trust and the networks had to follow rules that were intended to benefit the public.   It seems safe to say that we're in a different world now, and maybe it's time to revisit the FCC and broadcast TV.  

For example, why should we allow access to the over the air bandwidth to benefit a few huge corporations when it could be used to benefit the US.    For example, it seems reasonable to conclude that (in this world where wireless bandwidth is coveted) that allowing multiple companies to bid for access to those frequencies might be a way to shrink the national debt.    

In all seriousness, the over the air broadcast network model is an outdated relic of the past, and the networks clearly aren't that interested in providing "equal time" or balanced reporting when it comes to elections.
