It's strange

Is it me, or does anyone else find it strange that small group of people peacefully  occupying an abandoned building in the middle of the Oregon wilderness is a harbinger of the overthrow of our society by radical anarchists and the end of all that is good as we know it.

But....

Mobs of armed thugs looting and burning the property of innocent citizens while the police look on or surrounding and firebombing a police station is simply an understandable reaction to something.

Somehow, I can't help but find a fair degree of hypocrisy in the reactions to the two protests.

NOTE:

I do not support or condone the occupying of federal government property in any way shape or form.   Having said that the behavior of the federal government that led up to this occupation is clearly worthy of examination and potentially of some sort of protest.

I'm not completely familiar with this story, but it seems from a cursory look that it stemmed from the government going overboard over the burning of parts of "government" land that bordered that of private property owners, in an attempt to stop the spread of unwanted vegetation into the private property. I do not believe the "government" land is being used in any particular manner that makes the actions of the private property owners problematic for anyone...it is simply that they did it, and that's enough for the oppressive behavior of the government toward the ranchers who were then arrested. I have no problem with these guys occupying "government" land in protest of this nonsensical government action. I'd like to send them supplies.

My point exactly. If one actually looks at the grievances one finds that they are not baseless and that these protesters (right or wrong) at least have a basis for protest. Yet somehow a small group of guys with guns out in the middle of nowhere are the greatest threat to the US since communism, while your average white liberal is perfectly willing to excuse armed, angry, mobs, who are burning private property, looting from innocent people, causing actual physical harm (or the threat of harm), and attacking the police. The lengths that the US left is willing to go to in order to justify certain acts while excoriating similar acts by those they disagree with is both humorous and disgusting. These are the same folks who defend Planned parenthood BTW. It seems as though they'll excuse just about anything if the politics agree with them.
