Autonomy

How much autonomy do we as humans have?

Is unlimited autonomy desirable?

I don't believe in human unlimited autonomy. I don't believe it exists. I don't believe it can exist. 1) We all act based on our nature. We cannot act otherwise. 2) We all have limitations. "I choose to flap my arms and fly to the moon" is a choice one might make, but it cannot be done. 3) Ask prisoners if they have "unlimited autonomy". We are all "slaves" in some sense or another.

On the other hand, I don't at all think it would be a good thing.

Just enough to hang ourselves.

I disagree that we cannot act against our nature. Otherwise, why would we be expected to do so (Deuteronomy 30:19, Leviticus 11:44 as two examples). This is not to say that we can do so perfectly, because we are not perfect. But autonomy is not a matter of nature, but whether or not we can choose to act one way or another on our own volition.

As to "unlimited autonomy", we either have it or we don't.

Now I probably should have begun my response with this, but I can't be certain I understand what is meant by autonomy for the purpose of this question.

I'm being a bit vague, to avoid influencing anyone's answers.
