WTAF/Perception Is Reality

Because Art, I'll expand on this a bit and post a few thoughts from others.  I'm not going to post individual comments in the threads, just the links to the threads and some quotes.

I'm having trouble posting screen shots of the response from Allie Beth Stuckey, responding to this.  I'll try to post at some point, but she's just one of the conservatives who's criticizing Trump for this.

"Spot on!!! it seems that Trump wants to usurp Christ’s authority. After all he appears as Jesus and is accepting the worship of the lady in the lower left corner. But yet, Trump says that he thought he was just depicting a Red Cross doctor."

That image is what happens when Paula White is your personal pastor and people around you are continually comparing you to Christ. Trump desperately needs to understand the bad news that precedes the Good News: you are a helpless sinner in desperate need of a Savior, as we all once were."

Allie absolutely nails it right there. When you surround yourself with heretics and false teachers who tell you how awesome you are, bad things are likely to happen.

 https://x.com/mikewingerii/status/2043816198937428243?s=51&t=cLq01Oy84YkmYPZ-URIMYw

It seems plausible that Trump posted that image thinking it was him portrayed as a doctor. Or even as some sort of spiritual healer but not knowing how strongly it implied he was Jesus. It doesn’t take away from the blasphemous nature of the image. And I don’t say this to say, “Nothing to see here folks.” Why is it plausible? Because I think Trump has a shallow understanding of Christianity. Remember when he said “Two Corinthians” instead of “Second Corinthians” when citing his favorite verse? As I recall it was prior to this that Trump was asked for a favorite verse and didn’t have one to state off the top of his head. Then, it seems to me, this was embarrassing and he tried to rectify it when someone sent him a verse and he later read it off as written and was so unfamiliar with Scripture that he didn’t know we say “second” instead of “two.” Now, some scholars will say “two” instead of “second” when reading such texts but it’s very uncommon and I doubt Trump was doing so because he was approaching it from a biblical scholarship perspective. My point is that he could easily not know that the imagery there was clearly consistent with hundreds of years of depictions of Jesus. Maybe I’m wrong and he meant to imply he was Jesus but it seems unlikely. It’s still evil and a reminder of what Nebuchadnezzar said right before he started eating grass. But it was likely ignorance and ego but not an intentional blasphemy. I wonder if Paula White sent it to him. I wouldn’t put such intentional blasphemy past her."

  https://x.com/conservmillen/status/2043849950329458939?s=51&t=cLq01Oy84YkmYPZ-URIMYw

"I have been extremely consistent in my critique of Trump for 10 years: He’s better than the Democrat alternative, but he says and does things I don’t like. I wish he would have more self-control and discernment. I pray for him to turn to Christ and the wisdom that comes from that to infuse his speech and actions. I am also very thankful for how the Lord has used him to push policies that are good, right, and true. While I’ve never supported him in a primary, I remain so grateful he won and Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton did not. For me, Trump isn’t strong enough on life and marriage. I think his selection of Paula White is a dangerous error. I’ve articulated these things many times. This is a big reason I have never been considered “MAGA,” though I have voted for him 3 times and have encouraged others to do so. "

 https://x.com/slowtowrite/status/2043852607282708574?s=51&t=cLq01Oy84YkmYPZ-URIMYw

I do believe that he didn’t think of this as a depiction of Jesus when posting. Still, there has to be more care and discernment here."

I was perfectly happy with this post as a "What in the name of all that is holy was Trump thinking." kind of thing and leave it at that.  Apparently it was never going to be that.

If the picture doesn’t post, I’ll fix it later.

But what in the hell is Trump doing posting a picture of him as Jesus?

Every time he does something that could be considered positive, he does something stupid like this.

His “excuse” is incredibly stupid as well.

Glenn E. Chatfield said...

I think he was mocking the pope.

Craig said...

The excuse I heard was that he thought it looked like a Dr.

Given that the pope wears some pretty identifiable outfits, and none of them look like the pic, I’m not sure I’m buying that.

In any case, it’s just one more example of Trump doing something stupid, and not particularly important, which gives his enemies more ammunition.

Marshal Art said...

None of the links opened for me here. Sounds like something of no consequence.

Craig said...

I got rid of them.

Given the recent comparison of Trump to Jesus, then Trump portraying himself as a Jesus like figure, I guess I can see why it wouldn’t bother you. Call me crazy, but I’ve got a thing about people trying to portray themselves as Jesus, but that’s just me.

You’ve always been much more tolerant of these stupid episodes than others. That’s your prerogative.

Craig said...

The gist of what I’m trying to post is that it is perfectly fine to think that this post is stupid, and that Trump was a better choice than Harris. Also that Trump has has the Gospel shared with him multiple times and that might mean that Trump isn’t one of Jesus’ “sheep who hear His voice”.

Glenn E. Chatfield said...

Has Trump heard the TRUE Gospel, though? With heretics for advisors?

Craig said...

Given some of the people who have had the opportunity, I’d suggest that he probably has. He’s chosen heretics which seems to support the non sheep theory.

Marshal Art said...

Thank you. I'll continue to exercise my prerogative in the same way you do yours...such as your belief that I'm tolerant of his unnecessary nonsense. That's not the case. I just don't get worked up about that which has no significant impact on anything...aside from the overly sensitive feelings of those who aren't keen on the guy in the first place. Should he refrain from such? Of course he should, even if NO ONE cared. Is he likely to ever show such restraint? I doubt it. It ain't his style, but it's absolutely harmless and not worthy of pearl clutching.

Dan Trabue said...

Is it stupid? Or just another rather obvious signed of significant mental disorders?

Open your eyes. It's well past time for the 25th amendment to be invoked. You all would be livid if a Democrat were doing all of this crazy, authoritarian, delusions of grandeur talk... and rightly so. The man is disordered and out of control and has been for some time.

But the only way to stop it is for his defenders (ie, you all - the ones who keep voting for him and dismissing his crazy and authoritarian behaviors as "well, he's just being weird... he's just being Trump") to join the rest of the rational world and saying, "This is all too much. Impeach him. Invoke the 25th amendment, remove him by the means we have available and hold this sick person accountable for his craziness and crimes."

But as long as you all keep laughing and shrugging it off, he continues in power because the Kool Aid is powerful in a huge minority in this nation.

Craig said...

Thanks for making my point.

Craig said...

Coming from someone who refused to acknowledge Biden’s obvious mental decline, this is even stupider that Trump's stupidity.

That I’m not laughing or shrugging it off seems to have eluded you.

As we watched Biden visibly and publicly decline, we didn’t spend nearly as much time calling for him to be removed as you do for Trump to be removed.

If you want to blame someone for Trump winning, start with the abject failure of the DFL to acknowledge Biden’s decline, to continue to insist that he was the very best candidate, then to foist Harris on the electorate without a single primary vote being cast for her.

Craig said...

Biden told the same lies in speech after speech for decades and you never once suggested that he had mental problems or was unfit for office. But I do like the idea of elevating Vance and allowing him the advantage of running as an incumbent in’28. Good plan.

Also Craig:

"Stupid," IS shrugging it off, as if it were just another silly little thing that your little president is done. "That's SO Donnie!"

This is not stupid, in combination with all his other incredibly irrational behaviors, it's insanity, it's delusion, it's time (past time) to talk about removal, not that he's a silly little boy-man. You all use "mental problems" and "unfit for office" language about Biden but don't use it for the even more off-kilter president you keep voting for. And yes, I DID support Biden being forced off the ticket and replaced with Harris. You can't ignore reality or claim that reality doesn't exist. AND I supported someone besides him being the candidate early on.

Does it not register with you that most of the things you say about what I've done or said are not in the realm of reality?

Craig said...

I’m impressed, Dan has magical turned my post specifically about criticizing Trump for one more stupid thing, into something else entirely. What an amazing feat.

That you have to invent an entire narrative as if you magically read my thoughts leads me to wonder who has the problem here.

By all means, prove your claim about removing Biden, otherwise stop with the BS.

If you can’t prove that I’m wrong about something, that’s your problem. Simply making unproven claims is nothing.

Craig said...

Just because you don’t like Trump’s policies or how he acts isn’t grounds to retroactively overturn an election. As noted, you didn’t see us calling for Biden to be removed from office, we waited for the election like normal people.

But I appreciate your zeal to give Pence the incumbency advantage.

Which point was that? The one in your comment below from 4/13 @ 6:24 PM?

This showed up in an email from The Blaze today. Likely it won't be satisfying to those who spend so much time focusing on and/or inflating Trump's flaws and missteps, which I'll continue to insist are insignificant and not worth the time of day until such time that a specific misstep is.

I already mentioned this. Drs don’t wear robes with angels behind them.

It was a stupid thing to post, a stupid excuse for the post, and Christians are justifiably upset about this and the earlier comparison to Jesus.

My bad for expecting a president of the US to not post stupid shit on social media. It’s an absurdly high standard, but…

Art,

Would you post a picture of yourself as a Jesus like figure on social media?

If you wanted to generate an AI picture of yourself helping people, as a doctor, wouldn’t you have included the word doctor in your prompt?

When it came out looking like Jesus wouldn’t you have tried another prompt?

It’s ok to admit that Trump does stupid shit and that the stupid shut he does makes it more difficult for him than it has to be. The “People are going to shit on him anyway so who cares.” excuse is ridiculous.

You know as well as I do how you’d have responded if Biden or P-BO had done this.

We get it, we know, you aren’t going to convince anyone, let it go.

Marshal Art said...

As long as people like Dan continue to exaggerate about what Trump's unique style and manner means, they will remain outside the bounds of intelligent and honest discourse. To suggest episodes like this one indicate a true argument exists for invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office more accurately indicates the evil desperation of Dan and his ilk to portray Trump in the worst possible light before he fixes even more of the many problems Dan and his kind have brought about.

Now, like Craig, I'm not laughing it up about this picture (though the altered one with Obama healing the Ayatollah with Iranian flags flying did indeed give me a chuckle), but I have shrugged it off because of how inconsequential and insignificant it is. It doesn't expose anything about Trump those paying honest attention didn't already know.

https://www.theblaze.com/news/trump-jesus-truth-post-image?tpcc=email&sailthru_id=578791903f92a411976b1742&mb=Y

The above gives some insight from our president as to what he claims he had in mind. Do you buy it? I don't even care. But he acquiesced to the wishes of his base who found it in bad taste, so it's a moot point now anyway.

There's an expression in comedy: "They can't all be gems." That certainly applies here and should have been the only thought from those of his base who stupidly got bent out of shape over this picture. May they recover from their bout of the vapors soon and return to focusing solely on that which matters alone.

As to his enemies...those hateful, lying fake Christians and atheists like Dan..., how could anyone possibly give a flying rat's ass what those anti-American loons think?

Marshal Art said...

Physicians in ancient times did. Perhaps he was attempting to evoke such. Who cares?

It wouldn't be the first time a suggestion of heavenly support for physicians attempting to heal has been implied in artwork. I'm one to pray for God's power to heal those who need it.

Your bad is asserting what YOU regard as "stupid shit" actually is to anyone but you. And while you aren't the only who feels this way, numbers don't make it so. But let me help:

"My bad for expecting a president of the US to not post what I regard as stupid shit on social media."

That's legitimate. Your original scolding implies he posted it believing it's stupid shit but did it anyway. What constitutes "stupid shit" is subjective. Dan fills the comments section with stupid shit as if he's paid to do it. No doubt he regards all his stupid shit as profound pearls of wisdom.

Marshal Art said...

"Would you post a picture of yourself as a Jesus like figure on social media?"

No.

"If you wanted to generate an AI picture of yourself helping people, as a doctor, wouldn’t you have included the word doctor in your prompt?"

Not necessarily.

"When it came out looking like Jesus wouldn’t you have tried another prompt?"

If it came out looking like Jesus to me, I likely would. Funny thing, I've had people say to me, "Who do you think you are? Jesus Christ??" simple because my hair was long and I had facial hair, too. I didn't get a shave and a haircut as a result.

"It’s ok to admit that Trump does stupid shit..."

I don't deny that he does "stupid shit".

"...and that the stupid shut he does makes it more difficult for him than it has to be."

It's debatable that it does so to any significant degree. I do know that many on the right side of the divide worry that it does. I see no evidence of it. The only real negative manifestation I see is that pointless worry along with the lefties exposing themselves as they seek to exploit these things, as Dan is doing now.

"The “People are going to shit on him anyway so who cares.” excuse is ridiculous."

It's not an "excuse". It's a fact rendered to assure those like you of what a great waste of time it is to make such a big deal out of such things given all the really important things he's done for our mutual benefit.

"You know as well as I do how you’d have responded if Biden or P-BO had done this."

Let's be real here. Both those buffoons did indeed regard themselves as saviors just because they said they'd be. Trump at least has been a blessing to the nation. But if they were to have posted such, I can't see they'd have done so with the same playful attitude I believe is behind Trump's intention. I wouldn't be surprised to see them so regard themselves. That would make me laugh before it would ever make me lost my shit. The idea would be too absurd, as is so commonly the case with lefties and how they view themselves or us.

"We get it, we know, you aren’t going to convince anyone, let it go."

I should let it go? You're the one who did a post on this "nothing burger"!

Given the fact that he could have prompted the AI to generate a picture of him dressed in a pope costume, I'm not sure that makes any sense. But who knows.

What I do know is that he'd have been better off not to indulge his childish impulses.

Craig said...

What's weird is that, as Christians, we should be concerned whenever anyone positions themselves as Christ or equal to Christ.

I cannot see one single positive aspect to this whole thing, I find it simply mystifying. Likewise the attempts to minimize this are also mystifying.

Just acknowledge the stupid mistake and move on.

Craig said...

If you wouldn't do it, why would you give Trump a pass.

It seems bizarre, having used AI for some things, that anyone would be trying to portray themselves and a Dr without writing a prompt that would have gotten that result.

So, you acknowledge that you would have done what Trump did not.

At least you do acknowledge the reality that Trump does stupid shit. Next can you acknowledge that because he is the POTUS that his stupid shit is news because of his position?

Well, as long as you see no evidence then you must be correct. It's not something that I "worry" about, yet when he (inevitably) does something stupid for no reason, it is worthy of discussion. If Dan did this, it'd be a nothingburger, if Trump the businessman did this it'd be a nothingburger. Unfortunately the POTUS is the one who did this, and by virtue of his position, it's a bigger deal than you'd like. Unless you are seriously suggesting that there is a "private life" exemption for presidents.

I didn't make a "big deal" about this. I posted one post with one picture and two lines of text. I then responded to the comments other made. No "big deal" at all. The "wasted time" thing makes no sense in light of your actions. It took me very little time to write the post, slightly more to get the picture to load, but overall just a few minutes. I spent a bit more time trying to get the screenshots (what was actually slightly more interesting to me) but again, not nearly as much time as I've spent responding. If this was such a waste of time, as you claim, why are you still commenting?

Nice goal post move there. Your attempt to read Trump's mind is interesting as well.

My blog, my rules, I post on what I want. Just because I post about something, doesn't require you to comment multiple times, does it? You've invested quite a bit of time and energy into the blog equivalent of Seinfeld.

Craig said...

Strangely enough, a quick count reveals that you have commented on this post 7 times, Glenn 4, and Dan 2. I guess we know who's wasting time on a nothingburger.

Craig said...

You clearly seem to care as you keep offering excuses/reasons why the post wasn't problematic.

I applaud your creativity in creating a backstory that you believe makes this somehow more palatable, not quite as creative as some of Dan's best work, but not bad.

When you're wrong, you're spectacularly wrong, I'll give you that. I, in no way, suggested that Trump knew this stupid shit was stupid shit. I have no idea what he was thinking when he posted an AI picture of himself appearing to be Jesus.

Maybe you are a bit confused here, so bear with me as I explain a few things.

1. It's my blog.
2. I post about things that I find interesting.
3. I post with virtually zero expectation of engagement.
4. I rarely post based on what I expect the reactions of others to be.
5. What led me to post about this was the fact that I was not the only one on the right who was addressing it.
6. "anyone but you", is simply a complete and total false statement.
7. You contradict yourself what you make the "anybody but you" claim, then "you aren't the only one who feels this way" which negates your "anybody but you" claim.
8. It's my blog and what I post has nothing to do with anyone else.
9. "What I regard as" is obviously implied in the context of this being my blog where I write about my thoughts, opinions, and things that I find interesting.
10. As you note, there are plenty of others who "regard" this as I do.

If you can't see the difference between you continuing to comment, address things, make claims, and ask questions and my responding to your comments, I can't help you.
