Red/Blue

I've seen this meme a lot recently.  It's a US map with colored based on voting.   The vast majority of the area is red, with a few small blue area where large urban areas vote democrat.    There are frequently comments about how stupid the electoral college is or how bad it is that the small blue areas can impose their will on the rest of the country.

As I was driving through the rural heartland of the country yesterday and seeing lots of Trump signs on farm fences, I realized something important.

The vast red areas of the map, provide the food for the small blue areas of the map.  The reality is that those in the small blue areas of the map are unlikely to vote for policies or politicians that prioritize the red areas.   They tend to vote for things that help urban areas, not the country at large.

Maybe, just maybe, those vast red swaths of the US could do something to send a message.

I'm going to start this by noting that Trump has come out against the extreme pro-abortion amendment in FL.   I'm going to hope that his change on this was due, in part, to the reactions of the pro-life community.

Having said that, I'm going to post a sampling of the responses to Trump's apparent shift away from his previous positions on abortion.   I also have to note that Trump was the president who's done the most to advance the pro-fife cause in recent memory.

Ineligible

 https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor-abbott-announces-over-1-million-ineligible-voters-removed-from-voter-rolls

If a state like TX has over 1,000,000 voters on it's rolls that needed to be purged, how many more would states like CA, NY, NJ, IL, and other blues have?   Wouldn't it make sense to have mandatory voter roll purges, including non citizens, on a regular basis?

I know that there have been a couple of other states that have also done this and found significant numbers of ineligible voters including non citizens.

More data about Walz.

Censorship and Election Interference Using the Power of the Federal Government Seems Bad, Doesn't It?

Rob Flaherty, the deputy campaign manager of the Harris/Walz campaign, was the WH official who was in charge of the effort to threaten Meta into censoring the free speech of Americans by deleting or otherwise removing posts or comments that contained factually accurate information.

For some reason people believe that the VP of an administration that used it's official power to engage in censorship, election interference, denial of the first amendment rights of US citizens, and that is running for president without having gotten a single vote, is magically going to protect democracy.

The MN Dream

 https://www.foxnews.com/us/minneapolis-business-owners-face-almost-impossible-challenges-including-crime-regulations

 https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/kims-uptown-minneapolis-restaurant-to-close/

For those who are thinking that MN is a great example of why Walz should be VP, maybe it's not that simple.

The areas affected by the Floyd/BLM riots of 2020 are still not restored to their pre riot condition, and many still have OSB over doors and windows.   Downtown isn't as bad as it was, but it's not as good as it was pre riots either.

Uptown, once a destination for young adults and those who want to party, is now undergoing a significant downturn as the riots have dimmed it's luster.

Ann Kim, and award winning chef and restaurateur is closing her namesake restaurant due to a combination of general financial difficulties due to location, and the upcoming unionization of her workforce.

While there is much to like about MN, the damage from the riots is still with us and affecting areas of MPLS negatively.    Walz was one of the reasons the riots ran out of control for as long as they did, and Harris raised money to bail the rioters out of jail.

At Least Somone Agrees

"Last week, Trump posted this on Truth Social: “My administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights.” This is bad on every level. It’s the wrong move. First of all, morally speaking, we should never be legitimizing the concept of reproductive rights. So-called ‘reproductive rights’ is an idea promoted by those who support abortion to justify their beliefs. Before the abortion rights movement, nobody was going around talking about reproductive rights. It didn’t exist as a concept. This is a concept that was introduced for one reason and one reason only—to justify abortion.
Morally, you cannot legitimize it or offer any support for it whatsoever. I know there will be people on the right who will say, “Hey, we have to win an election,” and tell me that I need to get off my high horse because this is politics. “Trump can’t enact any pro-life policies unless he gets into office, so you’ve gotta do what you gotta do to get there.” That’ll be the argument. And politically, that argument is persuasive to me in most cases. If you don’t win, nothing else matters politically.
However, the problem is that Trump's statement isn't good politics. He achieves nothing politically by endorsing reproductive rights. Whose votes is he winning? The vast majority of women who will only vote for a pro-abortion candidate are not going to vote for Trump no matter what. Trump could hold a campaign inside of Planned Parenthood. He could kick JD Vance off the ticket and put the CEO of Planned Parenthood as the new vice president and it still wouldn’t matter for the vast majority of these people. They hate Trump.
And if they care that much about abortion, why vote for Trump when you could just vote for a lifelong pro-abortion fanatic? You can’t out-abortion Kamala Harris. If anyone cares that much about abortion rights or “reproductive rights,” there’s no reason why they wouldn’t just vote for Kamala. She’s the real deal on abortion. When she talks about how she spent her whole life protecting abortion rights, that’s actually true. That’s like the one true thing she says."

Matt Walsh

I think Matt makes some excellent points in this piece.  His point about the morality of legitimizing the concept of "reproductive rights", is very well said especially as so many object to abortion on moral grounds.

His last point about the reality that people who support abortion are unlikely to vote for Trump because of his tepid and  last minute embrace of "reproductive rights", won't vote for him because why would they settle for half a loaf, when they could get the whole thing.

Finally, I've said pretty much exactly what Walsh said about the politics of Trump's move.   I agree that getting elected is the only goal at this point, I just don't see how this move helps him get elected.   He's unlikely to gain as many pro-choice votes as he's likely to lose pro-life votes.  At best it's a wash, at worst a net loss of votes.

"Biblical"?

I just re read Dan's post claiming a "biblical" take on sin.   What I'd missed the first time I read it was that his "biblical" case didn't actually contain any actual "biblical" references.  There were claims about what the Bible "says" and paraphrases of Dan's eisegesis of certain things, but nothing that one could actually find specifically in the "biblical" record.   Maybe it's just me, but if I was making a "biblical" take on a subject I think that I would focus on the specific texts that bear on the topic.   I'd also not shy away from texts that might seem to run counter to my personal hunches.

But that's just me.

BVMLTT

"If we're not willing to criticize Trump's pro-abortion stance, then we have no basis to criticize Kamala Harris' more radical stance."

Samuel Sey

This is my point exactly, if abortion is the serious wrong that the pro-life movement has always claimed it to be.  If abortion is literally murder as some pro-lifers claim.   Then how can we not criticize Trump for his move towards a stance that is more accepting of abortion?    If all abortion is evil or murder, then how can we not criticize Trump's move away from a more explicit pro-life position?

This is not to say that we shouldn't or can't vote for Trump.   This is not to say that Trump will be better on the life issue than Harris.   This is to say that criticizing Trump on one issue is appropriate when his stance on that issue has moved away from his earlier stance.   It's idiotic to conclude that one must uncritically support every position a politician holds, or that you can't vote for someone while criticizing one of their positions.  Hell, I'd say that the criticism of Trump's abortion stance is constructive.   It's intended to help him, not hurt him.

I firmly believe that Trump has never been pro-life in any meaningful sense.   I also firmly believe that Trump has been the president with the most pro-life actions during his term since Ford.  I care less about what he believes on this issue than what he does on this issue.   The reality is that he did what he said he'd do, and he should be commended for that.

One choice is Trump, who seems like he's comfortable with the status quo on abortion.  Comfortable with some states deciding to highly restrict abortion, and some allowing unlimited abortion.   He's unlikely to sign any national abortion legislation, either a ban or to remove any limits.  The other is Harris who seems more committed to removing any and all restrictions or limits on abortion above all else.

Between those two, the choice for a pro-life voter should be pretty simple.  Even if it's not perfect, or even if it's not what it was in 2016.   Not to mention the fact that Trump will be more conservative on almost every other policy.   The DFL is the party where it's presidential candidates can't be criticized from within, the GOP used to be the party where criticism of the candidate on specific issues was allowed.    Let's not let the GOP take this lesson from the DFL.

I was going to write about this, now I don't have to.   The notion that the party who wants to save democracy is being represented by one candidate who is on record as wanting to restrict free speech, and another who was part of a presidential administration that actually engaged in suppressing free speech seems inconsistent.

I guess as long as they have joy and strength, it's all good.

This is Major Harris...

I was unaware until recently that Harris was put in charge of space stuff in the Biden administration.   Can someone explain why she isn't responsible for a system that has left two astronauts stranded in space until next year?

A Little Late

 https://x.com/jordanschachtel/status/1826242858669801771?s=51&t=cLq01Oy84YkmYPZ-URIMYw

One of the themes of the DNC was how bad people who "took more than they needed" are.   Yet for some reason they felt like the best people to deliver this message were...

P-BO and Michelle $70+ million

Jack Schlossberg, set to inherit around $100,000,000.

JB Pritzker, inherited around $3.6 billion.

Doug Emhoff, a slacker at only @$10,000,000.

Oh, and the Clintons who've managed to accumulate $100,000,000+

How can you people stomach the hypocrisy?

Trump inheriting money from his father is somehow bad, these folx inheriting money is somehow not bad.

"Transing" Children Isn't Data Driven

 https://x.com/wil_da_beast630/status/1827754740366589970?s=51&t=cLq01Oy84YkmYPZ-URIMYw

Without going back and researching this again, it's amazing to me that the "data" overwhelmingly supports the idea that we should not engage in irreversible "transing" of children, yet the ghouls on the left choose to ignore data in favor of a narrative.  There's a reason why Europe has stopped this idiocy.

If it Weren't For...

For some reason the MSM, who's revered by those who worship real journalism, cannot seem to grasp the reality that Trump as disavowed any connection with Project 2025, and has rejected it.   For example, I suspect that Trump's recent spate of language welcoming pro-abortion voters is not a part of the Project 2025 playbook, yet the MSM still parrots the narrative.

Meanwhile, they don't hold Harris to account for the actual policies she's actually endorsed over the years.

One wonders why.

Laughing about lying.

FHA

It's been floated that Harris wants to give away $25,000 to first time/generation home buyers for down payment assistance.  Anyone with half a brain knows that this is a bad idea for the housing market (except for sellers), and an attempt to buy votes from a constituency that is already voting blue.

But, what if there was a better way to incent first time buyers, that would have more positive effects?

What if you could accomplish similar things without the negative effects?

So, just for grins, let's consider this.    What if FHA went to a zero down payment model, and used some of the $25k to buy down interest rates for first time buyers?

First, this wouldn't automatically add $25k to the low end of home prices.

Second, this would attract stronger buyers to FHA loan and would offset some of the less stronger buyers who end up in foreclosure.

Third, it's likely that it would tend to push conventional rates down as well because competition.

I know it's not simplistic, it's not overtly buying votes, it's not a quick sound bite, but it makes a hell of a lot more sense.

When the Narrative is Proven Less Than Accurate

 https://www.cbsnews.com/news/breonna-taylor-kenneth-walker-judge-dismisses-officer-charges/

Well, one more cherished narrative of those on the left bites the dust.

Mostly Nonviolent Ship Destruction

 https://www.ft.com/content/7f886279-fecb-4410-b402-fbf85b9411b1

Shockingly enough,  adherents of the "Religion of Peace" chose to peacefully and mostly nonviolently blow up a Greek flagged oil tanker in the Red Sea causing an oil spill larger than the Exxon Valdez.   Even more shockingly the Biden administration hasn't had much to say or do about this.   Even more shockingly the leftist environmentalists haven't gotten particularly vocal about this either.   I suspect that it has something to do with the inability/unwillingness of those on the left to criticize and actions by the "Religion of Peace" which tend to detract from the "Religion of Peace" narrative that they've committed to.   Apparently the US has more naval power in the Med/Gulf/Red Sea/IO than anywhere else on the globe right now.   Perhaps this would be a good time to rid the world of these vile pirates who threaten the global economy.

Honesty is Very Important, For You...

 https://alphanews.org/walz-was-corrected-in-2006-campaign-after-claiming-award-from-nebraska-chamber-of-commerce/

Shocking, one more Walz lie surfaces and those who demand high levels of honesty from their political opponents have nothing to say when their own candidates lie regularly.

Why????

Trump just announced that his administration will be very friendly to "reproductive freedom" or some such drivel.    Strangely enough, he made his position on abortion quite clear when he had the pro-life plank removed from the platform.   I also get that the DNC convention was full of lies about Trump's position on abortion and on a national abortion ban.   But on a day when RFK endorses him, and following an unimpressive DNC, for him to choose to annoy a constituency that he probably needs to win, in the hopes of luring a few leftists who aren't abortion extremists seems like one more attempt to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

VDH

"One Insulting, Sappy Harris Speech Who would have thought that Harris all this time, over the last three and a half years, was not really an incumbent, but instead simply a fresh new and relatively unknown face (“Forward!”)? Did anyone know that the “newcomer” Harris always has been a pro-Israel hawk, a pro-defense budget hawk, a crime fighterhawk, and (along with Tim Walz) a China hawk? And even an Iran hawk, no less? (Did Harris simply ask her staff to find the 10 most important issues in the polls, and then find Trump’s positions on them, and then simply appropriate his?) But her most shameless moment was her transmogrification into a border hawk—this from the co-architect of a destroyed border that has let in 10-million illegal aliens who have wrecked the budgets of dozens of big cities and who are complicit in the importation of fentanyl that kills 100,000 Americans and have fueled a violent crime wave. Apparently, we, the people, whom Harris thinks are clueless, stupid, and amnesiac, must never ask her, “When have you ever before said or supported such things? And why did you not say or do such things when you were the second most powerful person in the United States over the last four years? And since you are currently still Vice President serving a debilitated and vanished President, why not do all of these things right now—given you have almost six months left on your term?" And who, contra Harris’s allegations, would have ever thought that Trump was responsible for Putin invading Ukraine when his administration (2017-2020) was the only one in four over twenty years (2004-2024) in which Putin never invaded a foreign country? So, rarely have we seen such a narcissistic and hypocritical rant as Harris’s acceptance speech. She, like most of the convention’s speakers, introduced herself to us with the anticipated victim “story” and “journey” (as if no one else in America has had a uniquely challenging story and uniquely good parents). (And haven’t we been told almost every detail of the Harris story previously by her sister, by her husband, and by herself?) She lectured us on the dangers of Trump who, she lied,  supposedly sent an “armed mob” to the Capitol (not a single one of the hundreds arrested in the Capitol was found to be carrying a firearm). In truth, Trump had no relationship with Project 2025 as she alleged. Then she claimed that Trump tried to bail out/release these supposedly dangerous rioters—this from the rebel rouser who tweeted out appeals to bail out immediately violent rioters arrested in the looting and arson of Minneapolis, May 2020. Talk about incitement! All this comes from the firebrand who shouted on national television that the already violent rioters in Washington DC should not stop (“They’re not going to stop, and everyone, beware. Because they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop before election day in November, and they are not going to stop after election day. And everyone should take note of that on both levels.”). As for our future, she said nothing about her previous support for “snatching” patents, her mandatory buybacks of guns, her prior opposition to fracking, abolishing ICE, single-payer only government health care, price controls, fining corporations over gender equity, raising corporate tax rates, a wealth tax, a tax on unearned gains, and packing the court. What happened to those once vibrant advocacies? As for abortion, Donald Trump was pilloried in the primaries by conservatives for being too liberal on the issue. He always said leave it up to the states in accordance with Roe vs. Wade; no ban on abortion in instances of rape and incest; but a ban on late-term, partial-birth abortions in which a baby’s life is ended as it enters the world. He has never supported a national abortion ban, nor copied Project 2025’s abortion views. Finally, I think we might wish to adjust this nonstop euphemistic mantra of “reproductive rights”. No one is suggesting that women do not have absolute freedom to “reproduce” and be “reproductive”. Instead, abortion is about “de-productive rights”,  or the argument over ending a life and even a life that is often self-sustaining apart from the mother’s womb. In a nation with a 1.6 and falling fertility rate, over a million abortions performed in 2023, an ethos of childlessness, and laws that let the people of each state vote on abortion, it seems Democratic “weird” to keep fixating on and calling endemic, unbridled de-production as dangerous restrictions on reproduction."

According to Biden this guy isn't black.  According to many leftists, he's a "house ni---r" or "uncle Tom".

At least he's got the courage to be publicly honest.

A Couple of Thoughts not Appropriate Elsewhere

"Don't want to be deleted on my blog? Speak on topic and do so in a respectful manner."

Dan

It's not strange that Dan chooses to place demands on others at his blog, that he chooses not to follow at other people's blogs.   As has been said before, If Dan didn't have double standards, he'd have no standards at all.

I'm trying to stay out of the conversation at Art's, but Dan repeatedly offers "reasonable" as if it is a measure of something objective.   Yet, simply reading what Dan writes it is clear that "reasonable" is both subjective and a subjective measure which Dan seems to imbue with an almost mystical power.

"We can understand morality APART from the Bible. Also, EVEN IF we look to the bible, we still must use our reasoning to guess at which "rules" found in the Bible are universal rules."

How is the above not simply a rephrase of "we do not need divine revelation"?    Unless it's a denial that the Bible is "divine revelation".

Abortion

During an interview Simone Biles was asked about people who were most important to her and she talked about her parents and adoption.   For years we've heard Steph Curry talk about how his mother planned to abort him, but didn't.  Clearly they've benefited from their  mothers not ending their lives before birth.

Yet strangely, both of these athletes choose to endorse and support candidates who support an extreme abortion agenda.   It is a mystery how two people so positively affected by not being aborted, can support unlimited, unrestricted abortion.   It's almost like they want to deny other black children the opportunities they had by not being killed in the womb.

There is an excellent chance that the next Simone Biles level gymnast or the next Steph Curry level basketball player will be aborted.     Statistics tell us that due to their "race" that there is a much higher chance.   As someone who was adopted, I want every child to have the opportunity to live and be adopted.   It's shocking to me that out country spends hundreds of millions to support abortion providers, and yet there appears to be little or no federal funding to support or encourage adoption.

The fact that so many rush to support abortion, while childless families wait for adoptable children or states restrict potential parents for political reasons, is absurd.

MN Kids Can't Read Well

  Image

So, since Walz, a former Teacher, took office MN scores in reading have increased their decline and dropped below the US average.    MN's national education ranking went from 7th to 19th.  72% of MN black students can't read with proficiency.

Obviously Walz has been a great governor.

" The problem with this is that - leaving aside the largely undisputed fact that Trump did not know about J6 beforehand and there was no coup - the BLM riots were not a matter of justifiably angry people "looting stores." A mob literally set an active police station on fire with the officers inside. It burned to the ground. A small army took over the Capitol Hill district of Seattle, made it into a city state (a guy we invited on "CTB" was the war-lord), and killed 7 people at the borders. 30 people died across all of the fighting - David Dorn, the Rittenhouse gun-fight deaths, etc. $3,000,000,000.00 went up in flames. WE ALL KNOW that, had the RIGHT done this, all-time coverage would be at 30x J6 levels. The fake coup would be forgotten forever, the theme of "a near police massacre" never. ANY RIGHT WING SIN OR MISTAKE will be treated in this J6 fashion: comparisons to the Trump assassination or Congrssional baseball shooting, as well as to my examples, are very worth making. #just_sayin"

Last Night

Lots of talk at the DNC about inequality and the evil rich.  But let's look at some of the houses those people live in and reconsider what they said.

Image

The DFL has been in charge of the country for 12 of the past 16 years, and the really expect people to believe that every bad thing going on right now was 100% Trump's fault?

Maureen Dowd is hardly a "right wing extremist", yet she's referring to the replacement of Biden with Harris as a "coup", is she really wrong?

Last night, Andy Beshar (someone who Dan touted as a wonderful POTUS or VP replacement for Biden) said that we should  "love our neighbor as ourself".    Strangely enough, he then said this.

I'm not sure wishing rape on someone's daughter fits the "love your neighbor" ethos.

Radio

I spend a fair amount of time in my car, and as much as I love to play music, I would rather listen to people talking.    I do sometimes listen to You Tube videos or podcasts, but usually I limit myself to the radio.   I did give up on political talk radio years ago, and most of the Christian pastors I listened to are not available up here.   So I gravitate to the comedy, music, and sports talk options on satellite radio.   It stunk when they got rid of the channel that did music talk all day.    Since our local sports talk isn't my cup of tea, too focused on the home teams, I tend to gravitate toward national sports talk.

One reliable topic is discussing who the GOAT of the NFL is.   Right now, it's obviously Brady, which is fine.   Just as obviously, there's a lot of talk about Mahomes and where he fits.   One of the things I like about Mahomes, is that when he was asked about playing as long as Brady, he said that it was unlikely.   He didn't want to let football become more important than being a father.  This was driven home the other night when someone posted a picture of him in a chair reading to his kids at bedtime.    We're in the middle of the pre-season and wrapping up camp and he's taking time to read to his kids.   It seems clear that Brady sacrificed his marriage and families on the alter of playing football, I sincerely hope that Mahomes doesn't make the same choice.

I'd selfishly love to see the threepeat, and a few more Super Bowl wins over the next few years.   I'd hate to see Patrick chasing Brady at the expense of his family.

Saving Democracy, Updated

 https://www.politico.com/news/2024/08/20/nicole-shanahan-rfk-lose-2024-00175057

“They have, unfortunately, turned us into a spoiler,” she said. “And we don’t want to be a spoiler. We wanted to win. We wanted a fair shot. The DNC made that impossible for us.”

“After a hit piece nearly every day for months, after rigged primaries, rigged debates, rigged ballot access, rigged polling, Bobby is still front and center as a potential spoiler, a potential kingmaker, as the candidate who might force a contingent election or a wild card candidate who might just emerge as a centrist, common sense alternative candidate who comes out of nowhere and wins the whole thing,”

So, the party that is running a candidate who literally never got 2% of the votes in any primary elections (and those in the previous election cycle) and that has literally (for the second time) rigged the process to prevent a longtime democrat from even competing in the DFL primaries, is running to "save democracy".

I don't think they quite understand the concept.

Update!!

It's looking like RFK will suspend his campaign on Friday and possibly endorse Trump.   Seems like it could be significant if he does.

Whoops, They Did it Again

 https://www.axios.com/2024/08/21/tim-walz-iui-ivf-military-rank

Tim Walz lies about lots of stuff.  Of course so did Biden and they worshiped him too.   So far Walz has gone between two roles in the campaign.  He's either the bumbling sitcom dad character, or he's the angry old white guy.

So, apparently DHS has "misplaced" almost 300,000 children who've entered the US illegally  and thinks they might be the victims of trafficking, exploitation, or slavery.

I'm confused, Harris blasted the Trump administration for "losing" 500 children but doesn't seem bothered that almost 300,000 have been "misplaced" while she is in charge of the border.   Meanwhile the DNC platform contains language that seems to support amnesty for human traffickers, gang members, and no welfare restrictions for immigrants.

Economic Illeterate

The Harris campaign has indicated that they favor a 25% tax on unrealized capitol gains.  This policy is utter madness.

Let's say that you bought $50,000 of Bitcoin on January 1.   Then that Bitcoin is worth $70,000 on 12/31, which is a theoretical increase of $20,000.   In Harris world, you should be taxed on that $20,000 at 25%, even though you don't actually have the $20,000.    It's not a realized gain until you sell.   So now you owe $5,000 in taxes for a gain which you haven't actually gotten.    But on 1/2 of the next year your Bitcoin drops in value to $25,000.   Which is now a "loss" of $25,000 of the original investment, and $45,000 over the highest value.   What happens then?   Do you pay $5,000 one year on the unrealized gain, and then get a refund on the unrealized loss the next?

This is absolutely one of the stupidest proposals ever floated and will absolutely wreck the economy.

I'm not sure.

I've seen this a few times and don't have the bandwidth to do the research, but it sounds plausible.   It's possible that the actual rankings might be not be precise, but the point still remains.

"The US is third of murders throughout the world.

If you remove

Chicago, Detroit, DC, St Louis, and New Orleans

That drops to 189th out of 193 countries.

As I said, even if the drop is from third to 100th, that's still significant.  Especially given the strict gun control laws in those cities.

Whoops, again.

I posted earlier about Harris' ridiculous plan to give $25k free money for down payment assistance to first time home buyers. Well it seems as though those reports might have been wrong.  It seems like the real plan is for first generation home buyers.  It's still a bad plan that will raise housing prices, but now it'll potentially benefit those who've chosen to enter the country illegally above US citizens.

Whoops

Totorrow? Updated

I'm seeing hints that the BLS will be reporting tomorrow that jobs numbers are being revised downward by a significant number demonstrating, right in the middle of the DNC, that the Biden/Harris/Walz claims about the strength of the economy and job situation aren't as good as they've been claiming.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-20/fed-confronts-up-to-a-million-us-jobs-vanishing-in-revision

Sounds like BLS goofed to the tune of a million extra jobs reported in their various estimates.   Sound like all the claims from Biden/Harris might be exaggerated.  This literally means that every single reference to the jobs numbers supporting their claims of a good economy was simply bullshit.   There's no way that Biden/Harris were ignorant of these numbers until now.   Image

ImageIt looks like this is the biggest negative revision to employment numbers since the global financial crisis.   Strangely it took place during an election cycle where the economy was going to be a major issue for the incumbents.   I can see why the Biden/Harris camp would have wanted to delay these numbers as long as possible.

  https://x.com/i/status/1826276412723994795

If it's True that the Biden/Harris administration really did this intentionally, doesn't that immediately render Harris unfit for office and open to impeachment?

Projection

The Myriad Projections of the 2024 Campaign

Victor Davis Hanson
American Greatness

Projectionism

"Projection is a Freudian psychological term. It describes a particular defensive mechanism, when people, often unconsciously, attribute their own (usually undesirable) behaviors to others who do not have them.

These mental gymnastics are intended to alleviate one’s own guilt or sense of inadequacy at the expense of another.

Sound familiar?

But in the political sphere, projection involves more overt dissimulation. It is increasingly common for leftist candidates or political parties to falsely accuse their opponents of the very destructive behaviors and unpopular agendas that they themselves embrace, but out of political necessity must deny.

Rather than an unconscious Freudian defense mechanism, political projection is usually a conscious strategy of hiding one’s own negatives by fobbing them off on antagonists.

Projection often proves a quite successful ploy.

After all, the political projectionist knows best his own hazardous or off-putting conduct and policies. And so, he can most skillfully attribute just these liabilities to those who have had no experience with them.

Our Leftist Projectionists

The 2024 Harris-Walz campaign is turning out to be projectionist to the core. How?

First: Kamala Harris and her new running mate Governor Tim Walz have long advanced fringe leftist political agendas. (Her “everyone needs to be woke” and his claim that riots happen because society doesn’t prioritize “equity and inclusion.”)

They have been loud in their fringe cultural commentaries, which are not just unpopular but roundly rejected by the majority of the electorate. And they know that if they become open and honest about what they have done, they will likely be defeated.

Second: On a more personal level, both are attacking the behavior and conduct of their rivals as a way of deflecting attention from their own weaknesses on that score.

Thus, this kind of projection, about both policy and personal behavior, is more common on the left because its ideology is fundamentally far more distant from the views of most voters.

A few examples reveal that 2024 is turning out to be the most projectionist campaign in memory—and logically so, because the Democratic Harris-Walz ticket is unappealingly left-wing and thus vulnerable.

Harris is now barnstorming the country, repeating many times per day a teleprompted narrative that she sought to close the border and stop illegal immigration.

Donald Trump, she claims, did just the opposite, and is thus weak on the border. This idea of an open-borders Trump pitted against a secure-borders Harris is a classic Big Lie—if not utterly unhinged and surreal.

As a senator in 2017-20, Harris repeatedly fought President Trump’s secure border efforts.

Trump battled for a secure border against the likes of Harris (whose record was the most left-wing in the Senate), the administrative state, “anonymous” moles within his own administration, DNC-spawned lawsuits, and liberal justices.

All of them battled to keep the border open and the inflow of illegal aliens as large as possible—given that they felt subsidizing a huge illegal alien population would create loyal voters in the new era of poorly audited early and mail-in balloting.

Innate to the new hard-left Democratic party is a globalist ideology that regards borders as anachronisms. Thus, anyone should be allowed to travel and reside in any country he pleases, while deserving state support to accomplish such migrations.

Those agendas were why the entire leftist consortium tried to halt Trump’s efforts to build a wall. They embraced catch-and-release and allowed illegal aliens to claim “refugee” status once inside the United States. They fought Trump tooth and nail when he tried to beef up ICE and other border security agencies.

Harris went to absurd lengths in her open-borders agenda. She bizarrely even blasted the public at Christmas time for daring to say “Merry Christmas” when, she alleged, young foreign nationals, here illegally, could not enjoy such holidays. When she called for reforming border security, she said of ICE—“And we need to probably think about starting from scratch.”

Harris accused the border patrol falsely of whipping Haitian illegal aliens and compared them to the enforcers of slavery.

As a California attorney general Harris championed sanctuary cities and the state’s neo-Confederate nullification of federal immigration laws.

She and Tim Walz both supported giving free health care to foreigners who arrived illegally in the United States. Harris claimed that illegal entry into the U.S. was not a criminal offense.

Most notoriously, Harris was part and parcel of the Biden-Harris-Alejandro Mayorkas administration that destroyed the border and allowed a record 10 million illegal aliens to enter the U.S. freely and without vetting.

So why is Harris projecting her own politics onto the border-hawk Trump, falsely claiming that he opposed bipartisan “comprehensive border reform”—a tired euphemism for the failed election-era gimmick of legitimizing the unimpeded entrance of millions more illegal aliens?

Because Harris knows that, of all the unpopular Biden-Harris initiatives, the wide-open border and accompanying unchecked influxes of unvetted illegal aliens have proved the most unpopular.

And Harris knows that she supported this nihilist policy and that she will again embrace it after the election in her remaining three months as vice president—and, if elected president, for another four years.

But for the next 80 days, Harris will lie, in utterly cynical fashion, that she is with the voters on enforced borders and regulated immigration and against Trump, the supposed open-border liberal. Note that Harris is still vice president and apparently remains “border czar” for the next five months. Thus, she could stop all illegal immigration right now. And, even if not elected president, she could ensure its end through November and until January 20, 2025.

In the personal domain, Tim Walz, and his supporters are now alleging that his opponent J. D. Vance is not a true veteran of the Iraq War, because he was mostly assigned to a non-combat unit.

Walz and company are projecting in this absurd fashion because Walz himself has lied that he served in a combat zone and implied he was deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan or both when he in fact left the National Guard before it was deployed to a combat theater. On yet another occasion, he claimed to have carried weapons “in war” when he had never been in combat theater his entire life. He also falsely claimed to have retired as a Command Sergeant Major, when he instead demonstrably held a lower rank.

As a way of hiding these untruths, Walz projects lies onto Vance.

But anyone knows who has been to Iraq during the war, and especially during the surge—whether as a journalist embedded with ground troops or on an official military-arranged helicopter and plane visits to outlying American bases and troop installations—Iraq was a combat zone everywhere.

There were no traditional fronts and no safe areas. Troops got killed inside the supposedly safe “green zone.” They were shot and killed or blown up in Humvees while traveling on allegedly secure roads and in purportedly secure bases. Journalists and bureaucrats alike were killed by IEDs, barrages, and sniper fire—anywhere and everywhere.

Vance was in such a 24/7 combat environment when he was deployed to Iraq. Classic projection is clear when the soldier who avoided combat deployments projects his guilt, embarrassment, or fear of criticism onto an antagonist who chose the very opposite conduct and behavior.

In the year of the projectionist, watch how Harris—who obsessively avoids any live, impromptu, or ex tempore talk or interview—blasts Trump—who cannot restrain himself from talking publicly to anyone—for supposedly seeking to escape debating her.

Watch how she rails against voter IDs with accusations that her opponents want to warp balloting—while she has encouraged massive, unaudited mail-in voting and third-party vote harvesting, along with 10 million new potential illegal voters conveniently entering the U.S.

Watch how Harris blasts “radical Republicans,” as she intends (together with a Democratic congress) to pack the court, go after the filibuster, and admit new states to get on the cheap four left-wing senators.

Watch Harris scream that the near-unprecedented Biden-Harris inflation—which saw staples including food, power, gas, rent, cars, and insurance soar by 20-30 percent during her tenure—was supposedly caused by ex-president Trump, who left office three years ago with a 1.2 percent inflation rate.

Watch the projectionist Walz claim that Vance, the author of Hillbilly Elegy who grew up in an impoverished Appalachia, is actually an elite because he went to law school at Yale, while Walz was a rural Nebraska boy who stayed rural in outlook.

In fact, Vance is the first poor white boy presidential or vice presidential candidate since Bill Clinton (who also went to Yale Law School) ran in 1992. Meanwhile, Walz once scoffed not to take the overwhelmingly conservative map of Minnesota too seriously since there were only “rocks and cows” out there.

Watch Walz scream about “weird” Republicans—as he let Minneapolis burn for days in the awful summer of 2020 before calling in the National Guard, as his wife opened their official residence’s windows to get an authentic whiff of the revolutionary arson, and as his daughter tweeted out assurances to rioters not to worry about being arrested or stopped by the National Guard given her inside knowledge, they would not be sent in.

Watch Biden claim that Trump will attack democracy if he loses. This comes from a president who has unleashed lawfare against his opponent, who was removed from his own reelection candidacy by a backroom cabal, and whose mental disabilities have been hidden from the public by the same dark forces who recently forced him out—but only when his polls dived, and he threatened other Democratic candidates. Note Harris is the first modern presidential candidate who has never won a single delegate in a single primary but was anointed by a fiat of unnamed donors and politicos.

The first cousin of projection is the more familiar vice of hypocrisy, marginally preferable to projection in that here the other side is at least doing what they’re accused of.

Harris’s hypocrisy is stunning and shameless. For example, she has blasted Trump’s demand for voter IDs as racist and voter suppression. Yet Harris demands the very same sort of photo IDs from all who would attend her rallies.

Her logic, apparently, is that verifying the citizenship of voters is not as important as proving you have obtained a ticket to her rally and are not unlawfully seeking to enter her own event. Her message to the public is that the security of American balloting is hardly as important as the security of her own rallies.

The second cousin of projection is simple lying about one’s real intentions, virtually inevitable for the side with the less popular ideology.

Once elected, Vice President Harris felt she could safely push unpopular restrictions on pipelines, existing oil and gas fields, and new federal energy leasing to please her leftist circle and in pursuit of her ‘green new deal’ agendas. Now facing a presidential election, and the need for cheaper gasoline and fracking jobs in swing states, she is pro-fracking and drilling for oil and gas.

As president, she would inevitably revert to her consistent earlier advocacies. And they range from federal gun confiscation and nullifying (“snatching”) private enterprise patents to controlling not only food prices but also wages that she deems not meeting her standards of “gender equity”.

At long last, can’t we take away the projection, the hypocrisy, and the concealment of one’s real positions, not to mention all the past collusion, disinformation, and lawfare, and just let the people decide whether they really want to return to the leftist vision of America as fundamentally flawed, inherently racist, and in desperate need of corrective illiberalism?

Can’t the left be honest that it wants massive government redistributive action in health, education, and welfare, fueled by enormous government spending increases, more taxes, and more administrative-state overseers?

And can’t the left be honest to Americans about their globalist view that America is only exceptional to the degree that any country believes it is exceptional—but demonstrably not exceptional enough to warrant secure borders, a free market economy, legal-only immigration, a strong deterrent military, and a content-of-our-character-not-color-of-our-skin approach to race?

Or to put it another way, if you don’t want what the people want, you have to project."

The fact that so much of the "trans" agenda in the US consists of ignoring what is happening around the world, and failing to  follow the data, makes me wonder if their stated agenda is something other than their real agenda.

The videos in these posts are chilling.   The fact that Harris is openly bragging about misusing the power of her office to get what she wants should scare everyone in the country.   The fact that Harris is prepared to violate the takings clause of the constitutions is crazy.    That she's stupid enough to say this in public, and ignorant enough to ignore the constitutional implications seems problematic to any who believe that freedom is an essential component of the US.

I know it's a Twitter link, but the juxtaposition of headlines by the same revered organizations that practice real journalism is pretty freaking hilarious.  But seriously, there's no bias or anything.

Finally, the revered paragon of "real" journalism decides that the Hunter Biden was engaged in activities overseas that might be worthy of investigation is worth gracing it's hallowed pages.

1.   Please note that the expected protests at the DNC are NOT "right wing extremists", but supporters of mainstream, leftist policies.

2.  Please note that you need to get through a fence and have the proper ID and credentials to get close to the DNC, but not to enter the country of vote.

3.    How long can the cognitive dissonance of the DFL and their supporters continue?

Protests

"Kamala Harris on Inciting “Good” 2020 Or Stopping “Bad” 2024 Street “Protests”? Here is a question for Vice President Harris: what makes some protests that turn violent good, while others this week may be similar and yet will be seen as bad? In other words, do we remember your own 2020 quote and tweet about “protests” that had certainly turned riotous and violent (contrary to the disinformation of obsequious “fact checkers”)? So here is Harris, on June 17, 2020, in a nationally televised interview with Stephen Colbert following the continuous Washington DC protests of late May and June that had proved nightly violent and engaged in nonstop vandalizing of iconic monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial: “But they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop. They’re not. This is a movement. I’m telling you. They’re not going to stop, and everyone, beware. Because they’re not going to stop. They’re not going to stop before election day in November, and they are not going to stop after election day. And everyone should take note of that on both levels. That they’re not going to let up. And they should not, and we should not.” And here is an earlier Harris June 1, 2020, tweet, seeking to raise bail money for those arrested for violent protests in Minneapolis: “If you’re able to, chip in now to the MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.” So, Vice President Harris, will you also encourage protestors outside your nominating convention this week “not to stop”? Will you praise them as a “movement”? Will you boast to the American people to “beware” that those in Chicago are “not going to stop before election day in November, and they are not going to stop after election day. And everyone should take note of that on both levels.” And when some of these protestors call you Hitler and genocidal, and get a little violent, and perhaps rush barricades, brawl with police, light fires, destroy property, loot, and vandalize leading to their arrests, will you go back on Twitter/X and try to raise bail for the arrested so they can get right back to their business outside your convention? Or are there some good “protests” that turn violent and are a “movement” that should not stop, and whose rioters should be bailed out asap? And then again there are other protests that are disruptive, dangerous, and demand mass arrests and jailing to protect the safety of their targets? Are your candidacy and career sacrosanct in a way a grandmother’s small business was not in Minneapolis? And finally, if the protests outside the convention in Chicago prove similar to those in Washington DC and Minneapolis in May and June 2020, will your running mate Tim Walz give us a repeat performance by demanding the National Guard not help out overwhelmed police—for at least three-days to help out the protestors during the convention? And will Mrs. Walz open her Chicago hotel window to get a whiff of the fumes from good arson, and will his daughter again find out from her dad whether the Guard will be deployed so she can warn the good protestors outside the convention to keep at it on the good information they won’t be arrested and so won’t have to bailed out by Ms. Harris?"

I've never been a huge fan of Nebraska.  It's flat, boring, and the appear to worship an ear of corn in overalls.    But, who knew that they drank horse semen.

Contradiction?

"The Democratic position is that Kamala isn't responsible for the policies of her own administration, but Trump is responsible for a random think tank proposal he's not only rejected but criticized."

 @sunnyright

For a while, the primary talking point on the left was to hysterically whine about Project 2025. It was everywhere, mostly lies and exaggerations, they painted a picture of Trump mindlessly implementing every proposal.  Now, this ignored the reality that Trump wasn't touting P25, and had actually distanced himself from it. Yet the same people who believe that they can attach Trump to a policy proposal he isn't responsible for, have no problem separating Harris from the things and their results done by the administration she's a part of.
