Mass shootings

Lots of talk lately about mass shootings and how to stop them after the terrorist attack in Orlando.  Yet, one wonders why the attack below by an armed man at a club didn't get nearly the publicity of the Orlando attack.

I have a few thoughts on why, but for now I'll just let this stand.

First, that's way too close to where my daughter goes to school. I'm glad it's summer and she's home now.

Anyway, here's why we likely didn't see this one splashed all over the news:

a. Low body count compared to Orlando.
b. The shooter is black.
c. The victims aren't homosexuals.
d. Someone was there to shoot back.

I'm picking "d" as the most likely, especially since it accounts for "a". The media doesn't want to support self-defense successes that impede their support for gun-control.

"b" is significant because the media can't run a racial angle to hype the account to the fullest. Way too many black men shooting people for this to be newsworthy.

"c" is significant because no "oppressed" class has been victimized by an oppressing class. The recent Charleston case of a black congregation attacked by a racist was perfect for the mainstream media as it had those two elements clearly at play. The only thing lacking was the marching and protests that generally follow. The congregants had too much class to go all Ferguson over their tragedy.

Those are off the top of my head, but I think they're a good and logical start.

Obviously the answer is "d", because it doesn't fit the "inanimate" objects are the cause of all evil narrative from the left and the media. In the same way, the fact that there were 60 people shot in Chicago last weekend is conveniently ignored. Because we can't talk about the correlation between strict gun control and high rates of crime and shootings.

At least TN has the guts to make people responsible for their actions by making those who establish gun free zones liable for the results of their actions.

I also agree that "b" plays a role since black folks shooting people doesn't fit the narrative either, I'd be shocked if of the 60 shot in Chicago if 80% of the shooters weren't black.

Speaking of percentages, there are some interesting percentages in this article from Jim Geraghty of National Review. He gets his numbers from the Washington Post. They need to be splashed over ever social media site until BLM types get the message.
