Fraud Stuff

There's been a lot of talk recently about the collective billions of dollars stolen from US taxpayers by multiple large, organized rings of criminals.   We've seen poor people denied food aid, we've seen at least one death, and we've seen autistic children denied care because the funding has been spent fraudulently.   Honestly I'm shocked that this is a partisan issue at all.   I'm more shocked at the defenses and excuses being made.   To be clear, at least as far as MN, those involved in these frauds are predominantly (but not exclusively) Somali immigrants.  In some cases, autism treatment centers, the fraud worked with widespread involvement of many of the Somali community.

What I've noticed is an attempt to blend all of the frauds together and pretend like convictions for frauds that have been exposed and prosecuted are somehow related to the frauds being exposed more recently.  For example, the (white) woman who had a role in starting the food fraud, and has been convicted, is being trotted out as the ringleader of various other fraud schemes.   Apparently this is also an attempt to paint the Somalis who profited/are profiting from the frauds as innocent/ignorant/stupid pawns of the evil white woman.

At this point we have the following.

Food fraud.

Autism fraud

Day care fraud

Home health care fraud

Medical transport fraud

Outpatient care center fraud

So let's take a look at what we're hearing.   FYI, the local media have a mixed track record on reporting these frauds, but Lou Raguse from KARE 11 probably has the best track record.   As usual, Twitter posts are used when there is embedded video, Tweets from "real journalists", or links to more information.

Given the fact that we have Walz on record giving one of the fraudsters an award, and Ellison on record cutting a deal with them, I cannot see how anyone could argue that they are the best people to handle the subsequent investigation.  Especially given Walz's attitude about cooperating with the federal government.
