Media Bias

" I searched for this segment high and low—and finally found it. On Sunday, after the riots, France 2 aired a 12-minute report titled "In the Heart of the Violence" that showed, with very little narration—simply mesmerizing scenes of the great violence from Saturday's riots. I remember watching it riveted—like a war in real time. You see everything from every angle there: police charging and retreating, protest organizers handing out eye drops to people against tear gas, people breaking up "paving stones" to hurl at the cops, and vandalism, looting, arson, and also volunteer medics and firefighters and a band and that scum Mélenchon marching, reveling and delighted with his band of scoundrels. These are riveting television moments. I remember watching it and not understanding at that moment what I was watching. This is good television. Very good, actually. Well-edited. A rare document of a kind that's hard to see these days. In France, the news editions aren't an exhausting story of death porn and bereavement spread over two hours with ads like back home and endless smearing and spoon-feeding of narratives. 12 minutes of documentation, almost without narration, is something very unusual. A whole lot of real estate in a French edition that lasts only about half an hour. One of France's big workers' unions, the CGT, which is a kind of ultra-leftist "Histadrut." Together with another similar committee (CFDT), they were very outraged by the airing of this unconventional report. Because it shows there the true face of this "protest" without bullshit and without prettifying and without filters. Now they're demanding not only the firing of the veteran anchor—Laurent Delahousse—but the firing of the entire news team for this edition. You get it? **Workers' committees**, demanding that the managers of the French public channel—fire an entire team because they dared to produce a report not to their liking. A report in which, in most shots—the camera is completely passive and there's no taking of sides or mediation. This is the radical left standing on its hind legs against, well—reality itself and those who broadcast it. They call this report "propaganda." To this insane demand, Valerie Lerouge—the president of the journalists' union SNJ—joined in. For her, it's a matter of "total and uncontrollable deterioration." To the workers' committees and her, more voices of journalists and others from the left joined in holy outrage. The management of the public channel France 2 that aired this docu—hurried to issue a kind of "mea culpa"—a fairly panicked apology statement in which it regrets that the images weren't within a "broader context." Meaning that no one sat there and blabbered to the people watching this riveting document—what they should think or feel about it. I'll let you judge for yourselves. Lucky someone uploaded it to Twitter::

Watch the video.

The problem with Dan's response to this outrageous violence in repeating the student narrative is that it allows him to ignore the bigger picture. France has adopted virtually all of the social/immigration policies that the ASPL/DFL/DSA are advocating for. Yet, somehow those policies are not enough to satisfy the rioters. That Dan and the lemmings think that things will be different in the US, is insanity. Are there "students" among the rioters, yes. But it's clear that Muslim immigrants are a big part of the worst of it, and the "palestinian" flag is prominent.

But, what Dan chooses to ignore  is that this is simply one more instance of left wing/progressive violence intended to push for some sociopolitical agenda. It's not "right wing" fascists, it's Dan's folx.
