Hunger Strike

The level of stupidity and entitlement shown by these students is incredible.  They've made nuisances of them selves for almost 2 years, and now they only have one tactic left.   Slow motion suicide.   That they could leave Stanford and divest themselves from the horrific actions of the university never crossed their minds.  Only that Stanford must bend to their will.  Their reluctance to simply transfer indicates that they want to have their cake (the prestige or a Stanford degree), and eat it to.   That they believe that the university is "responsible" for the potentially disastrous results of their hunger strike is beyond belief.  It's almost like they don't want to take responsibility for their won actions.

Wow! What an incredibly insightful expression of the truth of it! This is the same wherever golden spoon children "protest" instead of getting to class. I guess they think that now that Mommy and Daddy paid for their education, the university is beholden to them regardless of the merit of the demands they make.

I say "golden spoon children attending university on Mom and Dad's dime" because I doubt any of the protesters at any of the universities where they're taking place include students who worked their own way there.

So much of this culture is children who have grown up with virtually everything they could want, who now need some outlet to be oppressed. They're entitled and think that everyone should bend to their will and accept their faux oppression. I also think there's some "shock value" involved. It's edgy and dangerous for a upper class white kid at Stanford to support terrorists.

I agree that the students who got into Stanford on merit and who have to rely on financial aid or pay their own way don't have time for this crap. I suspect that these children are in degree programs that are not particularly difficult nor particularly profitable.

As I said, they want the big name degree, but they want it on their terms.

Maybe I missed it -- but what are they striking for?!?

Because they love Hamas and hate Jews. It sounds like they want Stanford to divest from some investments.

Seriously, I have no problem with them dying a slow painful death of starvation if that's what they want.

This'll probably a Ramadan style hunger strike. They'll hunger strike from dawn until dusk, then gorge themselves after dark.

I'd like to see them at least get extremely sick so they'll realize their stupidity.

Really sick is fine too. Given how performative the left tends to be, I doubt they'll really put themselves at risk for much of anything.

"The hunger strike marks a renewed effort to persuade the University to meet activists’ demands. “When all other means fail… you put your bodies on the line,” said David Palumbo-Liu, a comparative literature professor and member of Stanford Faculty & Staff for Justice in Palestine, during a speech at the Monday rally. Palumbo-Liu is not a participant in the hunger strike."

You "put your bodies on the line", unless you're the professor Palumbo-Liu, in which case you take credit for other people putting their "bodies on the line".

"The protesters’ speeches also called on University president Jonathan Levin ’94 to publicly urge Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen to drop felony charges against 12 Stanford affiliates who were arrested during a pro-Palestinian protest in June. The 12 broke into the University president’s office, barricaded themselves inside and vandalized parts of Main Quad."

And they want criminals released. Just like Hamas.
