Why, Indeed?

I touched on this a while back, and I appreciate this more in depth look at the question.  I absolutely think that these sorts of studies are vital as we look at broader questions of immigration and the makeup of those immigrants.  It seems clear that culture and desire to assimilate matters quite a lot when we look at immigrants.  I'll note that the Hmong have absolutely maintained much of their culture, while also assimilating and adopting US culture.

Somalis are Muslim, which answers the question. Muslims continue to claim that they will take over the USA and Somalis doing their best to do so.

Glenn, I think that you have part of the answer. But Islam doesn't explain (totally) why some immigrants from particular Muslim countries are worse at assimilation than others. I think that a comparison of Persian/Iranian immigrants with Somali/Pakistani immigrants would provide some contrast.

In any case, this comparison provides a great case study. Whatever the results are, it's a great thing to look at.

While I have no stats, I wonder if the Iran is actually a majority muslim country.

Iran is currently an Islamic theocracy, so I suspect that it’s “officially” 100% Muslim. I suspect that those from pre-Ayatollah are much less Muslim.

I thought I'd submit this article for your consideration. Note the FOX report from 2018 and one can see this has been going on unabated for quite some time.

It's clearly been going on for a while, and it's clearly beyond MN. My question is whether or not it's something that is totally explained by Islam, or if it's more common among certain cultures/nationalities.

The bigger question for the post, is what we can learn from the Somali/Hmong case study, and how other East African immigrants compare to the Somalis.

More like, what can we relearn, as I believe we used to consider the impact on our society and culture when deciding if a given migrant should be allowed entry.
