Much like Maher, I'm not a big fan of SAS. But he makes some really good points in this video clip.
From a purely pragmatic point, it would be a huge statement for a large majority of black voters to either vote GOP or sit out as a protest against the DFL taking them for granted.

I don't much care for Smith, but I do think he's absolutely sincere. So I give him props for that. He gets attention from several notable conservatives, and is friends with a few as well. Mark Levin comes to mind. It blows my mind, but the reality is that Smith isn't a moron beyond leaning left. He does hold with some conservative points of view, but I still see him as leaning most left.
In any case, what he says in this snippet is really NOT conservative. If he's an American, then the GOP represents him well enough, or at least far better than do the Democrats. He wants to frame this as "black representation" and that's where he goes wrong.
As noted, not a SAS fan. Yes, he’s absolutely not a conservative, which doesn’t mean he has nothing whatsoever to say. Whatever he is, he’s not blindly following the current DFL which is a step in the right direction.
I didn’t say it was conservative. He’s calling for black voters to engage in a massive protest against the DFL.
He’s not wrong because this isn’t something with an objective right/wrong binary.
Further, his suggestion would provide a landslide GOP win and actually give conservatives a chance to govern. If conservative policies are superior, that opportunity should be enough to change voting patterns in the future.
It’s refreshing to see some advocating for a rebellion against the DFL status quo, seems like a decent enough idea.
