Sometimes Bob Goff just nails it

“If you want a report card on your faith or your life see how you are treating the people you disagree with the most.”

So, Jesus called his (religious zealot) detractors all manner of harsh names and chased some of them out of a temple with a whip.

I'll just leave that there.

You’re not Jesus and you’re not trying to cleanse the temperature le. Your ability to justify your behavior is impressive, but misplaced. Jesus certainly didn’t trade in vitriol, hae, and lies.

But thanks for undercutting your claims that Jesus was against violence.

Jesus said “Love your enemies.” and “...“but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire.”

Jesus said “If you love me you’ll keep my commandments”, I guess we now know where you are.

It’s frankly bizarre that you’re choosing to get defensive over a post that is this non controversial.

“There's no school to learn how to love your neighbor, just the house next door. No one expects us to love them flawlessly, but we can love them fearlessly, furiously, and unreasonably.”

You see, the problem modern conservatives have, especially religious conservatives, is they want OTHER people to be polite. They don't want people who are concerned about neo-nazis or the KKK or anti-immigrant speech that calls a group of poor refugees a bunch of "Invaders..." They don't want people concerned about that to be righteously indignant and call out the racism and hatred for what it is.

No. Modern conservatives want people to not raise THOSE concerns, and certainly not to say "you blind guides!" ..not say "woe to you who do not welcome the immigrants!"

However, modern conservatives are fine with Trump and other conservatives spreading false claims that are inherently violent like the press or the Liberals are the "enemy of the people," or "the immigrants are invading us!" Those are violent statements too, but you didn't step up to condemn them.

But you DO want us to be polite when we condemn them. You see, like with the ancient Pharisees, you all are hypocritical and cherry pick when one can be righteously indignant and use harsh words in the same manner that we were taught to by Jesus our savior.

Your hypocrisy and embrace of violent words yourself undo any suggestion that you might be genuinely concerned about politeness.

That sort of call for "politeness" is just a tool of the oppressor, not of the reformer.

1. If your going to make broad sweeping claims of fact, could you trouble yourself to provide some actual proof of your claims?

2. If you’re going to decry false claims by others, then avoid them yourself, please.

3. If you’re going to quote me, then please actually use the words I used, not words you just made up.

4. Please demonstrate from scripture anywhere that Jesus encouraged His followers to engage in vitriol, hate, anger, and lies.

I’d point out the specifics of your falsehoods and mistakes, but clearly you have no desire to hear or engage with them. Just like you’ve thrown aside the “embrace grace” Jesus you wielded as a weapon when you thought it helpful and the “love your enemies” Jesus you’ve likewise used. Instead you’ve chosen to embrace a violent, vitriolic, hateful, expletive spewing Jesus, unfortunately you don’t have His authority.

But it’s really great to see you arguing so vehemently against showing grace and love to your hated enemies.

Good gosh! The first statement is an out and out lie...not even an opinion as it cannot be based on anything in the real world. ALL conservatives, religious or otherwise, prefer that EVERYONE, particularly their own be as polite as possible at all times. Note the stark and consistent examples of civil behavior and civic cleanliness on the part of the various and many right-wing rally goers, and try to find some parallel to the routine hatred and vitriol spewed by those at left-wing gatherings...not to mention the mess. There are no such parallels.

Dan then goes on to group all referencing foreigners who ignore our immigration laws with that coming from nazis and klansmen. A more intentional slander would be hard to find, and thus an intentional lie. He also lies by suggesting that such concern for the respect of our immigration laws is racism. Thus, he asserts that we think nothing of those like himself who are indignant over a straw man.

So "modern conservatives"...people about whom Dan knows nothing...and ideology about which Dan knows nothing...indeed to NOT want people like him to lie and then accuse us falsely when our intentions and motivations could not be more clear, justified and moral.

"However, modern conservatives are fine with Trump and other conservatives spreading false claims that are inherently violent like the press or the Liberals are the "enemy of the people," or "the immigrants are invading us!" Those are violent statements too, but you didn't step up to condemn them."

Unlike modern "progressives" like Dan...that is, progressively more idiotic, anti-Christian and anti-American...conservatives are not spreading false claims of any kind. When Jim Acosta, CNN, MSNBC continue to engage in false reporting...in much the same manner Dan does with graceless regularity, they are indeed the enemy of the people and it is they specifically about whom Trump so accuses. Conservatives understand this easily because they don't lie like Dan and the members of the press he defends constantly do. Indeed, we have little reason to lie given all the legitimate reasons provided by the left to oppose them.

What's more, when foreigners attempt to breach our borders without submitting to our laws, they are invaders. That is by definition what they are. It is accurate and truthful and thus appropriate. As an aside, I recently heard Stephan Molyneux explain that "illegal immigrant" is a grammatically improper label to use...oxymoronic...in that it is contradictory. An "immigrant" is someone who enters a country legally and legitimately. Thus, these people who ignore our immigration laws aren't immigrants at all and can only properly be referred to as invaders.

First, we want you to tell the truth and then do so politely as well. For my part, I can deal with a lack of politeness if the truth is told. So progressives aren't doing either with their petulant attacks on Trump and conservatives. Very little...if any...hypocrisy on our parts, but it's part and parcel of the progressive way, as they progressively continue seeking to drive this nation to perdition. Here's an example:

"That sort of call for "politeness" is just a tool of the oppressor, not of the reformer."

As Craig suggested, Dan has a history of whining about a lack of politeness by his blog opponents...me in particular...simply for telling the truth. Now he refers to himself and his kind as "reformers"??? That's incredibly daft. The true and necessary reforming is what he opposes so virulently and nastily.

Art, beyond all that it’s this notion that there are only two options. The first option is this false notion of politeness that presumes that truth used to be placed below politeness or civility. The second option is this vitriolic hatred that claims to be about truth, that really isn’t. The notion that Dan his promulgating in his objection to the quotes I have posted, l is that somehow impossible to demonstrate love for people you disagree with even though we are specifically called to do so by Jesus. Ultimately, the problem of vitriol and hatred Isn’t so much a partisan issue, as it is an issue of the church surrendering what makes the body of Christ unique in favor of just looking like the rest of popular culture.
