If I'm not mistake NYC designated itself a "sanctuary city" a while back, now they're bitching about people talking them up on their offer.

While the MA governor and Lt Governor are trying to convince people to take immigrants into their homes.     First, I'm sure that the Obamas will gladly share their massive mansion with some of these immigrants, as a way to set a good example for the rest of us.

It's strange that the folx who advocate for virtually unlimited immigration don't seem prepared to deal with the results of the policies they advocate for.    Strangely enough, when it was just states along the southern border that were dealing with this problem, these folx didn't see it as a problem.   I can't help but wonder if this is a NIMBY situation.

I am quite sure that Dan stands ready and willing to house as many migrant families as possible in his home.  He probably already does so, but just hasn't mentioned it.

No doubt Dan's erected an array of bunk beds to squeeze in as many as possible. Given his simple living code, however, I'm sure he's in a one room shack with dirt floors, so space is severely limited.

Those Dems who fancied themselves compassionate for declaring their towns "sanctuary cities" never envisioned the possibility of hoards of illegals seeking sanctuary. Of course, if they're not technically seeking asylum, the Dems can pretend they're not obliged to welcome them with open arms despite their overwhelming numbers. But in any case, as is so common with the progressives, they don't see beyond the superficial expression of a nice-sounding notion, and they complain about consequences easily seen by thinking people...who are most who are not progressive. Now, while seeking to blame others for their suffering, they seek aid from those same people.

We have in the past had immigrants living with us (for ~5-6 years for what it's worth - as have many of our church friends. Heck, two of our friends who live in Morocco are adding on a whole extension to their house to help with housing immigrants there!) as well as providing support/ally-ship in a variety of ways. But squeezing people in to someone's house is not the same as making sure affordable housing is available for all who need it, as well as making it easier for immigrants to work, which is really all they want to do.

All of which I/we have actively worked on, as I/we have listened to immigrants tell us what would be most helpful.

I want long term workable, respectful solutions, not squeezed in charity.

You?

I'd love long term solutions. I don't think that allowing virtually unlimited, unfettered immigration is a solution to anything. But, let's remember that the same folx who advertised their cities as "sanctuary cities", are now the ones bitching about people believing their statements. It's the APL who are trying to "squeeze" immigrants into people private homes, not the GOP.

I suspect that the "long term solution" will involve revisiting the failed policies of the '60's and building vertical, high density, low income housing in urban areas. All while cities raise the costs of actually building this higher density housing, and fail to consider the infrastructure costs involved.

I'm going to assume something, which means I might be wrong. But I suspect that Dan's allowing of some people into his home was based on at least some degree of prior relationship with the people, or was set up through an organization that vetted the family and matched them with Dan. The problem with his use of this example is that it is not what we're seeing from these various liberal city governments. Just like there is zero chance that P-BO will open up his huge mansion to these immigrants, I suspect that Dan would also not open up his spare bedrooms to some random immigrants.

What I saw in his response was not, "Absolutely, send me some immigrants as soon as possible.", it was more "Look what I did sometime in the past.".

That's a good point, Craig. And with various example of "sanctuary city" officials encouraging actual citizens to house illegals, who exactly can they confirm that any given illegal is safe to house with one's family?

As to whatever it is that Dan is doing, I've absolutely no confidence we're getting the story as accurately and objectively as is necessary to judge his actions. Given his wild and whimsical point of view on this issue (as if he has any other kind on any issue), I wouldn't be surprised that he would stick out the necks of his family in order to posture as compassionate. His personal assurances are decidedly short of assuring.

Art,

I also question the accuracy of what he's related to us. I also firmly believe that it's likely that he opened his home to a family with which he had some degree of relationship, and a strong sense of their background. In other words he made an informed decision based on his relationship with this one particular family. What's interesting is that the primary factor was his relationship with this family, not their status as "immigrants". (I'd be shocked if they were not legal immigrants) To pretend that his actions are a direct analogue to what is being asked/demanded by these governors is ridiculous.

True. There's no way Dan allowed into his home someone he didn't feel had been proven to be safe to some degree. Of course, we're speaking of Dan. He's a moron. It wouldn't surprise me to learn his family suffered the consequences of stupidly allowing a serial rapist into his hovel
