What a shock

Billy Porter, an actor I've never heard of, seems shocked that his choice to go on strike has resulted in negative consequences for him.   Since he's chosen not to work for an extended period of time, and therefore hasn't gotten paid, he now has to sell his house.

A quick check of IMDB would seem to indicate that his career has multiple streams of income as both an actor, musician, producer, and director.    But apparently none of those things pays enough to fund his lifestyle.

It's almost like he doesn't understand that fighting for something important sometimes carries costs and requires sacrifices.

The founders of the US pledged their "lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor" to the cause of liberty.  I guess asking an actor to make a relatively minor sacrifice for his cause is just a bit too much.

Poor baby.

Looked him up. His "spouse" is named "Adam". Seems he makes all manner of bad choices.

I think the point that Mr Porter was making was that if he - someone who's had a great deal of success and made some good money - is having to sell HIS house, then what's it like for the average actor who ISN'T wealthy and who is living paycheck to paycheck.

Which may not be as fun for conservatives who like to beat up on "big hollywood stars," but, if the facts matter for you - which I assume they do - there's the actual story.

And once again Dan misses the point. Elsewhere I've posted the average salaries for actors and writers, and they're not poverty level by any means. But, let's stick to the actual point. Mr Porter chose his career. Mr Porter chose to go on strike. Mr Porter clearly failed to prepare himself financially for the results of his choices. SAG/AFTRA doesn't seem to be particularly helpful in supporting it's members during this strike. Oh, and Porter clearly has income streams that are not related to his current acting gigs.

The point is that choices have consequences, and adults don't whine when their choices result in consequences they don't like.

And once again, Craig misses the point.

If you have one actor making $10 million a year and 100 others making $1000 a year, it may average out to a decent wage, on average, but that doesn't translate to a living wage for most.

Math. It's a great concept to understand!

And I don't hear Mr Porter whining. I hear him siding with and speaking out for the poor and marginalized.

Impressive, Dan managed to miss the point again.

The point of the post is that Mr Porter chose this line of work, he chose to purchase a home that he couldn't afford if he didn't have income coming in regularly, he chose to go on strike, and he's now feeling some negative effects from his choices. It's strange that you interpret his complaining about how HE had to sell HIS house because of HIS choices, as concern for others.

Like any union member who chooses to strike, the choice comes with negative consequences. It's called accepting responsibility for one's choices.

It's always amusing when Dan tries to tell me that I've missed the point of the post that I wrote.

Of course, if Dan thinks that he can come here and try to make the post about something of his choosing, he's deluded. He might have a point, but it's rarely the point I intended.
