More Bits of Tid (I know, I need a catchy name for these posts) How about "News Dan Will Ignore"?

Shockingly, the vast majority of Canadian euthanasia victims are white.

From Kendi on down, the clergy of the DEI religion are frequently plagiarizing frauds who couldn't have gotten their sweet gigs based on their actually ability or accomplishments.  No wonder people think DEI is about prioritizing incompetent people who check certain demographic boxes.

When I posted earlier about Biden's pardon factory, I had no idea it was this bad.    The people he's letting out make no sense (based on Art's analysis) in terms of the apparent principles behind the pardon power.  This sort of thing is making me rethink my position on the pardon and limits.   I still think that there should be some sort of significant punishment if a president is ever found to have sold pardons.   With all of the wailing about the cost of US healthcare, the MN fraud and this slime getting a pardon will likely get ignored as they relate to healthcare costs and problems.

The lame duck congress and Biden/Harris administration are determined to get as much bullshit through as possible while they still can.  Between that and selling off materials for building the border will at pennies on the dollar, it's a disgusting display of disdain for the voters.

Who knew?   Maybe he, and UH, are not all bad?   Especially given the fact that the excuses of the killer are now found to be bullshit.

While we're blaming everything bad about the US healthcare system on "for profit" insurance companies, let's look back at what they knew about P-BO care before they forced it through in the middle of the night and without allowing anyone to read the bill.

 Walz is a complete idiot.

Again, maybe the healthcare debates are not as simple as some would like you to believe.

Whoops!!   Maybe we should send screenshots of Dan referring to Trump as a rapist to Trump's legal team.   Watching Dan get sued for libel/slander would be amusing.

More evidence that Walz is an idiot.  After pissing away a massive surplus, using it to start new handout programs that would eventually grow the budget we get to watch Walz turn a 20 billion dollar surplus into a 5 billion dollar deficit.   But y'all wanted this kind of incompetence for VP.

During the campaign, I argued that while Trump had engaged in some unsavory business practices, the Clinton Doctrine (private acts don't affect government service) should have been invoked.   That Biden's cabinet has managed to turn government employment into massive personal fortunes is one more ignored hypocrisy of the left.

I like "Bits of Tid"! It's a good name!

Quickly, as I am compelled to stop procrastinating at the moment, I want to deal with a caveat to my pardon position:

There have been cases of incredible scumbags sentenced to life or multiple decades in prison who in time came to actually understand their evil and have rehabilitated into truly persons of service. For the story of such person come to the attention of the president, I can accept the desire to grant clemency to such a person (though it may require getting the governor of the state to agree if the crime is not a federal infraction). Some people can change and even some really vile people as well. It would be especially gratifying if such a prisoner didn't even know he was being considered for such mercy. This would be, I believe, a reasonable exception to my position on the pardon power. It was either Clinton or Obama (I really don't recall, but I think it was Bubba) who pardoned a Puerto Rican terrorist who was unrepentant. Clearly he would not qualify under my exception.

I'll get to the rest of your "Bits" later, as there seem some good ones in there!

Thanks, it may stick around.

I agree that in those rare cases that clemency can be appropriate. The point here is that Biden is just pardoning people wholesale based on the recommendations of an interest group. I'm all for undeserved mercy for someone who's truly repentant. I'm just wondering about what the quid pro quo is for Biden.

No argument there! Joe ain't corrupt! Just ask Dan!

Oh, Joe is corrupt, just ask anyone else.

Seriously, here's my problem. I agree that he has the authority to issue these pardons, and to do so with very little or no restrictions. If I actually thought he was issuing these pardons for any reason other than self protection and some sort of "payoff", I wouldn't be very bothered by them. But this just reeks of Biden issuing pardons for reasons that benefit him, not anyone else. I keep coming back to my question about what happens of a president sells pardons.

I'm concerned about how to encourage honorable employment of the pardon power. Trying to narrow the criteria goes against the notion the president should have some plenary power of discretion, and I lean toward that notion strongly. But it allows for this kind of abuse. An amendment is not the answer because that sets a precedent (which has already been set, actually, with most every amendment since the original set referred to as "the Bill of Rights") of constant alterations of the Constitution which aren't really necessary with honorable people in government.

I honestly don't see how you can narrow the pardon power. It is constitutionally mandated for the executive, and I don't see how either of the other branches can impose limits on it. Honestly, it seems like something not worth amending the constitution over.

In my mind the only issue, and potential hook, is if the president actually sold pardons. At that point, I'd argue that either impeachment or prosecution could be justified. Although, the recent SCOTUS decision would seem to make prosecution difficult.

Since I just saw a story that Biden is looking to prohibit trading stocks for congress, I can't help but wonder if this is Joe giving the finger to everyone.
