I Love LA

As we watch the peaceful, left wing, protesters loot and burn their way through LA we're faced with multiple story lines.

1.  The fact that we have immigrants waving Mexican flags, protesting American immigration policies in America.   In Mexico, both the immigration and the non citizen protests would be illegal.    It's a strange way to ingratiate yourself to the country you claim to want to live in.

2.  Trump learned from the Summer of Love 1.0 that failing to bring in the National Guard could have prevented damage and harm.    So good move getting the National Guard in early.   But what in the hell is going on with bringing in the freaking Marines.  While there are good and valid arguments against deploying active duty military personnel to deal with riots of this nature, the fact that he chose the Marines makes no sense.   Historically the Marines have had a specific primary mission, seaborne assault,  and because of that don't have the numbers of support troops that the army has.   The army has much larger numbers of civil affairs/MPs than the marines do and would probably be a better choice here.   Marine infantry isn't necessarily trained for this kind of thing, and is probably not a good choice.

3.   Once again, the lie that left wing protests are always peaceful is exposed.

4.   From what I've seen reported, the LE action that started these riots wasn't even immigration enforcement (at least not primarily).  Much like what we saw in MPLS, you end up with a bunch of people trying to protest busting criminals for crimes other than immigration.

5.   This is going to provide fodder for campaign ads in the next several election cycles.  The GOP is going to use this (and other readily available video) to show how bad things are in a blue city in a blue state.     They'll use this against Newsom if he runs next time around.    While the DFL will try to spin this as Trump using the military to quash "peaceful" protests.

In general, I support increased enforcement of laws regarding immigration, as well as against drug trafficking.  So I have no problem going into a place like LA to do so, as it points out the failures of the CA/LA governments.
