"  Interesting headline choice, People. “Black Woman, 29, Is Found Hanging From Tree…” But the suspect is simply “Man Arrested.” The man arrested, 51-year-old Jarques Ratliff, is also Black. Tasia Fortune’s own mother has said she doesn’t believe her daughter’s killing was racially motivated. So why emphasize the victim’s race while leaving the suspect’s race completely out of the headline? Because “Black woman found hanging from a tree in Mississippi” certainly creates a very specific impression. If race matters enough to put it in the headline, tell the whole story.
