Stupid lies

It’s been suggested that candidates who tell “stupid lies” are unfit for public office.

Does telling lies about your own mother qualify as stupid?
Does telling lies that are easily demonstrated to be lies qualify as stupid?

Telling lies is always bad. Telling stupid lies is especially bad is it suggest you don't even care about the truth. A candidate who lies regularly is not fit for office and people should not support him or her.

People should actively oppose any such candidate. For instance, the GOP candidate down in Florida who lied about graduating from college and was caught in it and then lied to try to cover up her lie, and was caught in that lie. She should step down. And certainly our current president has lied endlessly and stupidly and should step down and conservatives especially should be calling for his ouster.

Congratulations to the normally conservative newspaper in... Iowa? I believe? ...who said that conservatives should all vote against Republicans this time around... because Republicans have gone so far wrong. Or like George Will saying that Republicans need to lose badly. The Incredible amount of false claims coming from especially conservatives right now just needs to end. It is a threat to our free republic.

And, of course, any Democrats who are lying should also stop. If they are making a practice of it and are Unapologetic, they too should step down. It's a little hard to take seriously about any concerns they might have about Democrats lying... At least until they start to oppose the chief liar.

I’m gratified that you’ve sort of spoken out against those on your side who lie stupidly. Although your rant is decidedly partisan and reeks of your usual double standard, it’s a step in the right direction and I applaud it.

The problem with your response, Craig, is that right now in this point in history in the real world we have one party that is closely allied to the embrace of repeated awful stupidly false claims. One party. And that party is the Republican Party.

Lies are associated with that party specifically just because of the sheer volume of false claims coming from this Administration and from the many who support it.

Right now in his stump speeches, Trump is stirring up fears and riling up his audience with ridiculous false claims about the Democrat Party being behind the Caravan of refugees seeking Asylum. As if there's some sort of Nefarious plot, instead of just simply people seeking safety and refuge. It is a diabolical awful and stupid false claim with no support.

And if it were just an idiot out there making those stupid conspiracy theory claims, then that's just one idiot. The problem is the Trump audience eats this s*** up. So, again, the problem with the response is the pretense that all sides are equally lying. The data does not support that pretense, the pretense itself is a sort of lie.

I could point out the litany of “stupid” lies on the left, (Warren and O’rourke for starters), or I could point out that one of the specific reasons I gave for not supporting Trump was his Integrity, or I could point out a history of criticism of politicians who lie no matter what their party, and none of that reality will make a bit of difference to your commitment to s narrative.

Let’s not forget that y’all are the ones that claimed that lying about ones private life didn’t count against a candidate and who actively defended one of your own who was found guilty of perjury.

How convenient.
