The data has never supported the anti gun position. Even from the earliest days of CCW permits, the data showed that CCW actually had a positive effect. Fast forward to today. Even though we know, data, that the US rates of gun violence are predominantly due to a TINY number of repeat offenders, the too many guns myth is still popular. The corollary to that is the "assault rifle" myth that enormously exaggerates what the data tells us about the use of "assault rifles" in actual crimes. Finally, there's the twisting of statistics. That suicides are lumped in with drug gang murders should tell us that there is no real attempt to accurately report the data. That "defensive" uses of firearms are so wildly underrepresented in the Narrative also raises questions.
In short, how can we have a serious discussion of the extent of a problem, if one side skews the "data" in order to forestall having the discussion.

The left's desire to disarm the law abiding is not at all a fiction. Just as the unborn is without any means of self-defense and as such is so abhorrently victimized by the left, so too does the left work to guarantee for them no resistance to their agenda. Disarming the public is the primary means to ensure that, despite it's abject conflict with the Constitution and the God-given rights of all people to self-defense.
The ultimate goal is control and reliance on government.
