This morning NBC news did a story about recession fears based on Trump's moves so far as president.   Usually the above definition of  a recession is used, except when it's not.   During the Biden/Harris administration, we went 3-4 quarters with negative economic growth, yet no one referred to that as a recession.   Yet now we're freaking out over a recession after Trump has been in office less than 2 months.   Call me crazy, but I thought that two quarters was 6 months.   Perhaps the fearmongering is premature.

Yeah, I've been hearing a lot from lefties about Trump "tanking the economy", as if that's even possible in two months, let alone six weeks. But of course, regardless of the issue or topic, Trump is making things worse by virtue of simply being Trump. If Trump is doing anything, it automatically is causing harm. We're just supposed to assume it...take it for granted...and don't worry about an explanation that presents any definitive evidence to support it. Just believe. Because he's Trump. And Trump is evil incarnate, and his detractors represent pure goodness and light.

Obviously, some measures have declined, and trump didn't do himself any favors by promising to fix things on day one. Realistically, the changes he's trying to make will take some time. I'd have preferred it if he'd been more clear on this in his messaging. "We're making some difficult changes, and things might not move as fast as we'd like, but going forward things will be much better for our children/grandchildren." seems like a message that would have avoided some of the flak he's getting.

In this case, it's much more about the media bending the definition of recession one way to help Biden and the opposite way to hurt Trump.

Did Trump promise to have have everything heavenly ON day one, or that he'd begin the process of fixing things on day one?

If I remember correctly, he promised to have some things (food prices?) come down on day one.

The point is that people hear what they want to hear, and campaigning on "Things are going to suck for a while before they get better." , probably isn't a winning strategy. Too many voters want a quick fix and aren't willing to sign up for short term pain, for long term gain.

In this case, it's a combination of Trump "over promising" or being perceived as over promising, and the reality that fixing this stuff takes time. That and the APL/MSM playing games with the term recession.
