It's Not A Democracy

Portrait of Thomas Jefferson with quote on democracy as mob rule. Portrait of John Adams with quote on democracy wasting and murdering itself. Portrait of Benjamin Franklin with quote on democracy as wolves and lamb voting on lunch, liberty as well-armed lamb. Portrait of Alexander Hamilton with quote on liberty as republican government, real liberty not found in despotism or extremes of democracy.

If you were out marching for a democracy last weekend, you weren't marching for the  government that the founders envisioned.  In fact, you were marching for the type of government that the founders specifically wanted to avoid.  As I watch the political discourse of late, the Franklin and Jefferson quotes above seems particularly apt.

Again, demonstrating a lack of understanding of nuance.

Democracy has more than one meaning. We are not a DIRECT democracy, we are a democratic republic.

Fyi.

A bit late to the party on this one. It's always amusing when you contradict yourself and pretend like it's a win for you.

As you note the US is NOT a democracy, it is a REPUBLIC. The proper term is representative republic. There is no situation in which the US could accurately be called a democracy.

I literally just posted on a case of child rape in Sweden where the perpetrator got off easy because the rape didn't "last long enough" for it to be a big enough crime, and Dan bitches about this and some bullshit conspiracy theories.

The old, yet vaunted, moral compass is clearly a few dozen degrees off of True North.

Shocking. Dan either can't read and understand English, or chooses to ignore reality.

I suspect that he had something that had his panties in a wad, and felt like he must inflict that information on me without regard to where he did so. Which resulted in a comment espousing conspiracy theories on a serious post about a child rapist getting incredibly lenient treatment from the injustice system which should be protecting victims, not perpetrators.

Or the fact that he waited to make his bullshit semantic argument here.
