Ludwig von Mises wrote in 1920 that rational economic calculation becomes impossible without private property, because prices require owners making real decisions with real stakes. Collectivized agriculture failed because the price signal disappeared and nobody bore the cost of bad decisions. What China proved in 1978 is what every free market thinker already knew from pure logic: property rights produce food, committees produce paperwork. It's tragedy that Beijing still calls it a managed reform rather than an admission that the state had been wrong about everything since 1949."
