In fact, every single one of those women currently defending her would be calling for the maximum sentence. PETA would be outside the courthouse. Social media would be coming after her with torches and pitchforks and there would be no GoFundMe Campaigns.
Three puppies, and she would be universally condemned as a monster. Three children, and suddenly she's just an overwhelmed mom who shouldn't be held criminally responsible.
Now before the bad-faith rebuttals start… yes, postpartum depression is real. It's serious. It deserves compassion and treatment.
But these women outside the courthouse are conflating postpartum depression with postpartum psychosis, and those are not the same thing.
While Clancy was treated for anxiety and depression, it's worth noting she was never diagnosed with psychosis or auditory command hallucinations until after the killings took place.
Yes, millions of women experience postpartum depression. And almost none of them murder their children. Holding up a sign that says "same, Lindsay" doesn't just minimize what she did. It insults every mother who struggled with PPD and never harmed her kids.
But what really disturbs me about this moment is what those signs reveal about where we are as a culture.
We live in a society that will cancel someone for mistreating a dog on a viral video (as they should) but will rally behind a woman who killed three children if the narrative is framed correctly. We have reached a point where human life is valued less than animal life, as long as the right emotional story is attached.
When the public affords child-killers an ocean of narrative nuance and relatable pity that they would never dream of extending to an animal abuser, something has gone deeply, fundamentally wrong with us as a culture and society."

Indeed. Recall the evil Kristi Noem, who summarily executed a dog who proved too aggressive to other animals on the farm, then had the audacity to refer to it as evidence of her character with regard making the hard choices.
Yes. Because it makes total sense that we protect various animals more fervently than we protect our own children.
It's not that I have a problem with protecting animals and punishing those who abuse them. My problem is that we, as a society, value human children less than animals. It's truly a disgusting facet of leftism and feminism that children are regarded as a negative thing.
I recall hearing Bill Maher make a comment in support of animal rights, and did so in a manner that suggested it was a given...something, as one progressive we know asserts, which should be taken as rational and a most noble of positions. Like how could anyone not!?? I immediately thought of aborted children, who somehow are not considered as worthy of protection. When someone like Dan questions the humanity of the human at the fetal stage of development, why would that person not be given AT LEAST the same concern given to other living creatures by the animal rights people?
