Martin Tolchin, who spent 40 years at the NYT before founding The Hill and Politico, had this to say about Tara Reade's allegation against Joe Biden in a letter to the editor.
To the Editor:
I totally disagree with this editorial. I don't want an investigation. I want a coronation of Joe Biden. Would he make a great president? Unlikely. Would he make a good president? Good enough. Would he be a better president than the present occupant? Absolutely. I don't want justice, whatever that may be. I want a win, the removal of Donald Trump from office, and Mr. Biden is our best choice.
Suppose an investigation reveals damaging information concerning his relationship with Tara Reade or something else, and Mr Biden loses the nomination to Senator Bernie Sanders or someone else with a minimal chance of defeating Mr. Trump. Should we really risk that possibility?

This gentleman described as "Washington journalist Martin Tolchin" doesn't sound like the idealized version of the unbiased journalist, does he?

Sounds like a true enemy of the people.
He actually does seem like that appellation might be appropriate. Heaven forbid we have "justice".
What constantly leaves me curious is why haters like this guy can't provide any substantive argument for why Trump should be removed or replaced. He's been doing a great job and his alleged past behaviors have played no role in his current life as president. Sure, it galls to feel we might be dealing with a truly immoral human being in office. But the job he's been doing is not insignificant in deciding whether or not he should be reelected. I would say it far overwhelms any unproven allegation constantly being reasserted by the haters.
Further, there is no argument being made as to just how any of the haters' preferred alternatives would provide a better plan for improving the nation, and thus the lives of its people. Trump's actions are polar opposites of what every Democratic politician...be it his predecessor or any Dem governor...has done TO this country. All we hear is that Trump sucks and their choice is better, but no argument about how either is true. EVER. One would think there'd be one example at some point.
I agree that virtually none of this attitude is connected to specific policies that Trump has engaged in.
The two I probably hear the most are SCOTUS nominees and the increase in spending/deficit/debt. The SCOTUS thing cuts both ways, and the spending thing can't be completely laid on Trump.
Obviously Biden's election will see Ginsberg retire so they can replace her with another liberal woman. But Biden (or Bernie) shows no inclination to spend less than Trump.
I think that there is a degree of smokescreen in this. If they can get people to vote against Trump for non policy reasons, then they don't need to convince people to vote for them because of policy.
