Harvard

After Harvard president Claudine Gay demonstrated her inability to engage in a blanket condemnation of language that encourages the killing of Jews/elimination of Israel, we've learned some other interesting information about president Gay.  We've learned that she regularly plagiarized in her scholarly papers.  We also learned that her publishing output was significantly lower than would be expected of a faculty member at an institution like Harvard.   In essence, it would appear that she's not really qualified for the position she holds.   One wonders why she was given this position and why no one thought to check her work for plagiarism.  I guess we'll never know.

For it's part, Harvard has been clear that Gay may be a plagiarist, but she's their plagiarist and they're sticking with her.

For what it's worth, Biden engaged in plagiarism and it doesn't seem to bother many on the left either.

Another case of leftist double-standard: wrong for thee, but not for me.

Yes, it is one more example. It's interesting that plagiarism is simply one form of lying, yet the same folks that bitch about Trump's lies don't seem to worked up around plagiarism.

Oh, apparently Gay has defended her writings and claims that she's never done anything wrong. Well, as long as she says so, then case closed. We'll now treat all public figures the same way, as long as they say they've done nothing wrong, then we'll believe them and move along.

I read where she defended her plagiarism with her inspiring "I Have A Dream" speech.

I'm sure she's defending her plagiarism, because she knows that she's got a sweet gig, that she probably shouldn't be qualified for. I guess they'll stop disciplining Harvard students for plagiarizing going forward.

That really indicts the character of those running Harvard, doesn't it? They clearly outlaw plagiarism for students, yet tolerate it for their box-checking hiring practices...and then pretend it ain't no big deal when caught. That's those modern progressives for ya!!

This is one reason why AA and DEI hires will ultimately hurt those they claim to want to help. Gay's academic output, regardless of her plagiarism, was incredibly low for someone being considered for a position like the one she has. Then you add the plagiarism on top of that, and it raises serious questions as to her competence. Then you add her dismal performance in front of congress, and it should be the third strike. Instead Harvard chooses to double down on their mistake, which (right or wrong) calls into question the qualifications of others in similar positions. It literally causes people to wonder if someone who may be eminently qualified, might just be a DEI hire.

I think the bigger problem is that it's a matter of the academic industrial complex trying to keep up the facade that an Ivy league education (and the absurd debt that comes with it) are more valuable than they really are.

I saw something the other day about the size of the Harvard endowment, and the minuscule tax rate they pay. I can't help but wonder why that money isn't being used to keep costs down, or being taxed at the rates that the left wants "the rich" to pay. It's almost like a taxpayer funded subsidy for the eastern elites.

The state of higher education would make the founders of each of these long-standing institutions retch with life-threatening convulsion. It's vastly sad to see what's become of them. My wife says Pete Hegseth... of Fox News...sent his torn up diploma back to Harvard. He's embarrassed for anyone to know he graduated from there.

I never went to college or university, but I always thought about how cool it would have been to have done so. Not so much anymore, except when I think of what they used to be. I'd love to go there now as one at my age, just to piss them off and to confront all the moron kids who think they're making a difference with their leftist protests. What fun I would have!!
