More Tid

It does not serve the Democratic Party to call people who want stronger immigration standards "racist." I want stronger immigration enforcement BECAUSE I am on the left. It makes zero sense to import people into our country that dilute wages and have hostile opinions about Jews, women, LGBT people and even the value of America itself. Not everyone shares American values. That's not racist to say, it's clear-eyed, honest and realistic. You cannot claim to care about minorities while not considering things that endanger them. Polls show most Americans agree with me and do not trust our party on immigration policy. If we were to suffer another 9/11 style attack, the Republicans would win both 2026 and 2028 easily."

If we want a return to a less polarized and partisan political process, we need more people like this to step up and speak out. It's not "racist" to note that adding 10-20 million people who need housing to a country which doesn't have all of the housing "needed", drives up housing prices for everyone.

It is always funny when ASPL/AWFLs unironically argue in favor of strong borders and identification to cross them without realizing how stupid they sound and how they undermine their position.

The fact that those who are extreme leftists now sound exactly like "right wing extremists" back in the day is absolutely hilarious. That they don't see the problem is even more hilarious.

The ASPL/AWFL/MSM crowd is pushing a patently false narrative regarding TPS for Haitians. The reality is that if you want to blame a president, blame Biden.

This probably deserves it's own post.

Good roundup of DMP hypocrisies.

The last could deserve it's own post, but it seems to align with those who think if you sneak into our country but then don't break any other laws, your breach should be ignored. It is on this point the first "immigration reform" measure should be based. First time illegal crossing should now be a felony, with immediate deportation as automatic, no debate possible. Visa overstay is a felony if no attempt to legally extend it is recorded within 30 days of expiration, with immediate deportation automatic. Immediate deportation if an asylum claimant fails to appear for the scheduled hearing. No debates.

These are all reasonable reforms which should be first considered before any others, so that no foreigner gets the idea they can chance illegal entry or a visa overstay without repercussion.

As of now, and going back decades, first time border crossings are a "misdemeanor" and the specified "due process" for this "misdemeanor" is deportation. The second offense already is a felony at this point. I don't see how making the first a felony changes things materially, as long as "due process" is followed and they are deported.

I'm not sure what the penalty for Visa overstay is, but agree that failure to extend should carry consequences.

As far as asylum I'd agree. I'd also have a specific list of countries that meet asylum criteria/specific circumstances. Enforce the current process, no asylum claims from anyone who makes it too the border.

I'm kind of with Homan and Trump in thinking that we do everything we can under current law, before anything else. I suspect that we can accomplish the vast majority of what we need to do under existing law. Adding new laws complicates the process and drags things out. Especially given how unlikely it is that we'll see congress pass new laws.

Stay the course, enforce existing law, then decide what is next.
