Voter ID is polling well, yet the DFL power brokers refuse to let it come to a vote.
76% of Blacks Support ID
82% Latino
86% White
95% GOP
71% DFL
The issue of voter ID is an issue that has high support across the partisan divide as well as racial/ethnic groups. Yet the DFL senators absolutely refuse to let it come to a vote, while pretending that this is some absurd sort of "Jim Crow", for which we only have the DFL to than historically.
The polls are telling a clear story and the DFL is choosing to ignore the will of the people. This obviously isn't a new tactic for the DFL, but their clinging to this despite the public sentiment being overwhelmingly against them raises questions about WHY.

One of the most remarkably inane things I've heard has to do with the demand for reforms of ICE. This is despite, as I understand it, the current funding proposed by the GOP includes money for training ICE officers.
The thing is, the DMPs seek to reform ICE behavior. What's far more necessary is reforming Dem state and city governments who've established the unConstitutional "sanctuary cities/states" and forbid state and local LEs to work with ICE to remove illegals of any kind, but most particularly those in custody for breaking state and city laws. As has been mentioned time and time again, it takes far fewer ICE officers to pick up a criminal illegal at a state, county or city jail than is required track down the illegal after he's been released into the general population to commit more crimes.
But my preference regarding that is to arrest city and state officials, including their legislative bodies for daring to ignore federal jurisdiction regarding immigration, especially after the crap Biden gave Governor Abbott and other border states for enhancing their own borders against illegal incursion.
In addition to that, focus should also be on reforming the behavior of DMPs who "peacefully protest" with fireworks, chunks of ice, constant irritating and disorienting noise, their cars blocking traffic and thus ICE officers' ability to travel, etc. They should be arrested and charged with the felonies their actions are, and punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Then, and only then should we look at the actions of ICE officers to see if they're doing anything illegal.
I'll never understand the objection to vote IDs, and cannot think of a single legitimate, logical reason anyone would object to them who isn't determined to cheat.
The narrative is that black folk are simply not equipped to navigate the bureaucracy to get free ID to vote. This is simply one more example of ASPL defaulting to racism because they don't want voting reform.
This is clearly something that has overwhelming support across the board, and the DFl senators pretend like it's Jim Crow.
In general, I have no problem with calling for a high degree of professionalism in law enforcement. That expectation goes across all levels of law enforcement. In MPLS, you are correct that the government is making things worse with their refusal to cooperate and to interfere if possible. I suspect that most of the MPD disagree with this policy and will not enforce it if possible. Given the previous experience with body cams, I can't help but think that ICE body cams will destroy the DMP narrative once again.
I'm not sure that it's possible to arrest them, but I don't disagree with the broader point. I would like to see some lawsuits against the cities/counties/states for those victimized by the policies enacted by their leaders. (Sue Pritzker for the recent victim of his new law letting criminals go free)
I agree that promoting the fiction that the DMPs are simply "peaceful protesters" who are doing nothing wrong absolutely needs to stop and the laws regarding protest/interference need to be enforced. These idiots blocking public streets and demanding ID should all be swept up and thrown in jail ASAP. That they completely miss the irony of what their doing should also be a crime.
FWIW, law enforcement should be held to a higher standard on conduct. They have the training and authority and should do their absolute best at all times. When they screw up, they should be held accountable. Yet those adding to the pressure of these situations also should be held accountable for their actions.
"Qualified immunity"...which too many on the left demand be rejected...is a policy which allows for the circumstantial justifications for actions which would otherwise be regarded as illegal. This is the "split second" action choice, made under duress with one's life on the line or perceived to be. Until all obstruction by DMPs among the citizenry and state government is eliminated, I refuse to presume a negative outcome is the fault of LEs. When protesters are protesting at a safe distance which doesn't interfere with LE operations, when ICE isn't forced to take an illegal in public as opposed to the safety and security of a jail or prison, then we can look at the behavior of LEOs.
I'm not presuming a negative anything. I am suggesting that our LEO be trained as well as possible and that they conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism when on duty. Part of that would mean that there would be an investigative process in deadly force cases based on the current legal standards to evaluate use of force.
Obviously the actions of those who interfere play into the situation as well. Possibly some of that can be mitigated by training on how to handle new tactics. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the luxury of putting off deadly force investigations until later. Doing so simply plays into the hands of the protesters, and doesn't materially effect enforcement actions.
As noted, virtually all of this could have been avoided if these jurisdictions would just play nicely with others.
First, I saw it somewhere but can't remember--what does DMP mean?
Second, the Demokrat would always lose if they couldn't have illegal voting, which is why they fight so hard against it.
Just saw your next post defining DMP!
Art came up with it and I borrowed it.
