Cochise

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/29/us/politics/arizona-election-indictment-cochise-county.html

This story is interesting.  Cochise Co AZ indicted two Supervisors for delaying certification of the 2022 election.   This particular race had the closest margin of victory in the race for Atty General in the state.  There were also indications of possible fraud.   Ultimately it'll be interesting to see how this case comes out, because the validity of the indications of fraud will be integral to the defense and will have to be explored in court.   While the standard of proof should be whether or not they had a reasonable suspicion of fraud, it'll likely dig into any actual fraud that may or may not have occurred.

What's disturbing about this case, is that delaying election certification is apparently something that actually has a process when it is necessary.     If delaying election certification is something that is legal and is done correctly, it seems abhorrent to see people indicted for doing something legal according to the procedure established.   Right now, it looks like one more example of a DFL body of government, persecuting their political opponents.

Like Derek Chauvin? (Have you watched The Fall of Minneapolis?)

There's been quite a bit of that going around. Look at how Trump's been persecuted for questioning election results and having documents at his home, as if he didn't have absolute power over them for four years. Look at how people are persecuted for objecting to smut to which the school boards and teachers subject their children. Look at how people have been persecuted for daring to pray outside baby butcher shops.

Stan,

No I haven't, I'll try to check it out. Based on local news reporting, I'd say that it's not clear that the restraint used by Chauvin was approved. MPD had already had some other instances of negative outcomes with that technique and had changed the guidelines for it's use.

Art,

Yes, there's been an increase in prosecutions for legal activities. The reason why this one seems egregious, is that there was an established procedure to delay certification when appropriate. Had these two been prosecuted for not following the procedure then I probably wouldn't have as big an issue with it.
