Conclave!!!!! Watch for the Smoke!!

Not that I have any say in the matter, but given Pope Francis tendency toward appeasement, maybe they should pick a pope made of sterner stuff this time.

I'd be happy to see Cardinal Robert Sarah be selected.

While I'm not RC, and while I have plenty of theological differences with the RCC, I believe that having a pope who'll push the RCC away from accommodating liberal social trends and appeasing Islam, is a good thing.   Whether or not I like it, the office of the pope does carry weight and have influence on many issues where conservative protestants share common cause.    Given that, it seems appropriate to "support/hope" for a pope that is less beholden to liberal  political causes.

My problem is that I sat through Conclave and now have little hope that the next pope won't be gay or "trans".

FWIW, Conclave was a beautifully filmed movie.  Unfortunately the picture it painted of the College of Cardinals and of the process, not to mention the outcome, was less than flattering.

Never saw the film, but I'll look out for it.

I saw an African dude proposed as a good replacement, but I don't know anything about him. Francis was a great departure from those who came before him in recent decades. I hope they don't make that mistake again, but then, who the hell voted for him in the first place and were there any who didn't realize what a putz he was?

As to Francis himself, it's too bad for him. I thought he was on the mend. Did he take time to consider his life and repent of his shortcomings? I hope so.

I assume you mean "look out for" as in avoid. As I said it's beautifully filmed and the acting is good. It just makes the College look like any other political organization.

I follow Cardinal Sarah and he's pretty sharp. Obviously, I disagree with him on things, but he's be a breath of fresh air in the Vatican. I actually think that someone from Africa would be a good choice as they'd have a much more realistic view of much of what is confronting the Church today.

This isn't a DEI thing, although one could certainly make a DEI argument for Cardinal Sarah as well as arguing that exclusivity demands that Africa get a pope every so often. It's that he's one of the few RCC folks that I find things to agree with.

Francis spent too much time denying the tenets of the RCC and trying to gain favor among the left, the secular, and Muslims. He was an appeaser and we've seen how good appeasement is as a strategy.

Sorry, but your assumption is wrong. I believe I have a vague memory of seeing the trailer for the flick and thought it would be a good one to watch. Now with your recommendation, I "look forward" to seeing it.

I meant to add: My current television set up requires keeping an eye out for flicks to be offered on one of the several streaming services we have on our Firestick set-up. I haven't really tried to figure out how to find movies on my IPTV service, using it mostly for sports and FoxNews. Perhaps if I just talk to the controller, it might bring up a means of viewing it, though it might also want to charge me for the pleasure. I tend to avoid doing so.
