The annual NFL slave market, or draft is over and the big news is Shedure Sanders.
1. What's ignored is that the people who are bloviating about this are people who's job it is to predict drafts. They don't actually evaluate talent, they aren't in the meeting rooms or draft rooms, and they really contribute very little. Yet, they're so upset and being wrong and trying to hang on to relevance (and a paycheck) that it's actually funny.
2. Sanders and his father are going to be a huge pain in the ass to whatever team drafted him. Deion is officially starting his campaign to be the head coach of the Browns. This kid had marginal success where it counts, isn't a generational talent, interviewed terribly, and chose not to participate in events that could have raised his stock.
Given that the overall number 1 pick was a black QB, and (likely) the majority of players taken in the draft are black, it's absurd to try to make this about race. It's about someone acting entitled and spoiled before proving himself.
The upside is that he has the opportunity to learn some humility, distance himself from his dad (in a football sense), and show his skills in the field. At this point, it seems clear that his talent doesn't justify putting up with his attitude.

I don't even pay attention. It'll be more interesting as it plays out, I'm quite sure...or it will disappear into rightful obscurity. The latter would be better.
How did you like the Chiefs' draft? Not being a follower of college sports, I'm always at a loss when picks are made by Chicago teams. I did, however, actually watch the first two days and then waited to see how others spoke of the picks. I saw one "grading" of the picks and the worst one got a "C", while the rest were "Bs" and "As", so thus far, I'm feeling pretty good about the Bears choices. They picked this cornerback in the later rounds who is tall and very speedy, and had six picks in his last year of school. I hope he can do that in the pros.
Anyway....
I think that the Sanders/racism thing will go away as soon as the idiots pushing it realize how little traction they are getting.
I feel like KC did fine in the draft. It's hard to get too excited when you're 31/32 because there aren't any sexy options left at that point, and the calculus of trading away a stupid number of picks to move up usually doesn't work. I think that got some talented players and did so without overreaching. Obviously, time will tell.
All of it; the predictions, the spectacle, the grades, are kind of pointless. Either the kids can play or not, and we'll see how that plays out on the field.
Yeah, that some great picks turn out to be flops is not the least bit uncommon, and no one can say how a great pick will perform against the best of the best.
Yeah. That there is an industry dedicated to covering the draft, evaluating players, and grading teams immediately based on projected performance 2-3 years down the road.
That the NFL has managed to steal the thunder from the NBA and NHL playoffs with the draft, and the whole industry around it, is impressive.
