"The tragedy is that we already know what works. High-dosage tutoring, extended learning time, relentless use of data and feedback, and refusing to accept the soft bigotry of low expectations—these aren’t theories. They’re proven." If K-12 education inequality isn't the top social justice issue in this country, it's got to be at least in the top three. There are so many things we can do to improve the situation, and many don't cost much money. We just need the political will."

What could possibly the a common thread that links crime, and poor education outcomes?

The public indoctrination system (fancifully called education system) has long ago left educating students for indoctrinating them. History, if taught at all, is always revised to make WHITE Americans horrible people. History was replaced by "social studies" (when I was in hight school they had both and history was still real history, but I graduated 55 years ago). No longer do they teach English/grammar. And arithmetic/math can score super low and still pass. But boy oh boy do they learn all about LGBTQ, abortion, hating Republicans, and sexual anarchy-- and that all whites are racists and all blacks are oppressed.

From what I've read, it seems like the left decided back in the '60s that taking control of the education system was the best way to exert control in other/all areas of society. That the education system is failing so massively and so publicly at what is arguably it's primary responsibility (educating children to be able to function in society), yet no one seems to be worried about fixing it speaks volumes. As the piece notes, we know how to fix the system. We also know how to fix the parts of society that dismiss, disdain, or fail to support their children. The problem is a lack of will. The willingness to be branded a "racist, sexist, homophobe" for speaking the Truth is a must going forward.

get rid of the extraneous crap, focus on the basics, stop pushing a 4 year degree as the right path for everyone, and equip students with life skills instead of indoctrination. Set and expect high standards, of both parents and students. It's not that difficult, but it will be hard to fight against the entrenched establishment.

Battle for the American Mind: Uprooting a Century of Miseducation, by Peter Hegseth. An outstanding book demonstrating the history of the fall of the public schools and the plan behind it.
