The Crushing Power Of The State, Applied Against Small Businesspeople

"If (huge if) the government-run grocery stores ever open in NYC, this is what will happen within 2 years of grand opening: 1. Local competitors within a 5-10 mile radius close because they can’t compete against a store that receive government subsidies. 2. Suppliers have fewer stores to sell their products to and must raise the price they charge per unit to the government-run grocery stores. 3. Private operators of the government-run grocery stores inform the city government that they are unable to simultaneously pay above-market union wages and continue to provide discounted goods. They must break or renegotiate the contract. 4. The city government scrambles to find ways of increasing subsidies to cover the cost of labor and increased supplier costs, but the wealthy tax base it relies on has moved on to greener pastures. 5. The government-run grocery stores operate with severe shortages for a while but eventually shut down, leaving people in real food deserts."

Let's ignore, for the moment, the utter failure of government owned grocery stores.  Let's ignore, for the moment, that this is one man using the power and coercive force of the State to financially ruin local businesses that have served their neighborhoods for years. Even if we ignore that, how in the world is it possible for NYC to lose money on every one of these items without raising taxes much more than the alleged "savings"? Not to mention the likelihood that they'll try to strong arm suppliers into losing money as well.

Socialists/communists have no idea how things actually work, and choose to live in a fantasy world. Except Zorhan can always escape to his luxurious compound in his home country of Uganda.
