The headline to this story is "Trans Children Have Been Lied To By Adults". As we've seen multiple countries in Europe have aggressively back off of their wholesale commitment to "trans" children at any cost. They're looking at the research and realizing that it's been bad policy. The upshot is that there will likely be significant legal consequences as a result of placing the narrative over the science.
In the US I devoutly hope that the Drs, hospitals, and companies who've been making bank doing irreversible procedures on children make the Trump verdicts look insignificant. In all honesty, the fact that people like Dan who've enabled this bullshit probably won't feel any pain from this, but I hope the harm the he sanctioned and encouraged to these children haunts him every day.

America has become an outlier trapped in a pseudo-reality manufactured by its activists, politicians, and media, persisting in dubious experimental practices with no basis in science. Will there ever be a reckoning for this ongoing obscenity?

I quickly skimmed the NYT article and found a major concern with American policy against this heinous practice was aimed at criminal penalties for adults who subject children to it. I find that to be a most just consequence for child abuse. In this case, there was never any solid research which proved or even strongly suggested irreversible procedures were beneficial or even the best treatment for the disordered minds of these kids.
It's just a question of how long this Narrative can continue to thrive as Science and Europe continue to demonstrate that the narrative is built on bullshit.
I know it's almost impossible to do legally, but I completely hold folx like Dan responsible for the harm that the Narrative is doing to a generation of children. Those that uncritically bought the lies they were told, ignored the Science, and continue to push the Narrative even as evidence builds against it.
I have no real problem if an adult decides that they want to be known as something that they are not. Animal, gender, sex, pirate, whatever. I don't even care much if they want to pay to surgically alter themselves to live out their fantasy. That is their choice and they can suffer the consequences. I do object to being forced to act as if I believe that their alter ego is real. I'm pretty libertarian about things that only hurt the individual, until they try to force others to get involved or to pay for their choices.
Disclaimer,
Obviously, I don't ever want to see people harming themselves because of a delusion. As a human with at least a modicum of empathy, I'd prefer that people not do so. Yet, there is a point where I realize that they are determined to do what they want, and I'll step aside and let them deal with the consequences of their choices.
I would say I'm pretty much in the same camp. But, I don't believe those who would provide for such deluded people should be supported by the rest of us, either. Indeed, they're supposedly trained medical professionals who should know better.
