There's a narrative that gets repeated quite often that the reason why there has been nothing done to secure the border is because the GOP refuses to do anything.
When making this kind of claim, it seems that (at a minimum) the party making the claim would have had to exhaust every possible option to fix the problem on their own before this narrative makes sense.
In this case, the DFL is the party making this claim and pushing this narrative so it's reasonable to look at what the DFL has contributed to the solution. Obviously there was the recent bill that allocated more money to securing the borders of Israel and Ukraine than to securing the US border. This bill could also have been called the corporate welfare for arms makers, as various people keep telling us that 1/2 of anything we send to Ukraine will get spent buying arms from the US. The minority of the bill that dealt with the US border also had major problems. We could then look at the executive action possibilities that Biden could undertake unilaterally. We know that illegal immigration has increased exponentially since Biden took office and repealed multiple Trump EOs. So, it would seem that the narrative should account for the fact that Biden's executive action has increased the border crisis, and that he's done nothing to fix the mess he made worse. It would also seem that the narrative would have to account for HR2 which has been sitting in the DFL controlled senate since May of 2023 without a vote.
Now, the DFL folx spewing the narrative will likey say that HR2 is a baaaaaaaad bill. That it will result in horrible things happening and all sorts of evil. OK, then why not bring it up for a vote and vote it down? Why not negotiate with the house to make the bill better? Why just sit on it?
More importantly, why push a narrative that is demonstrably false?

The bill the Speaker of the House called "dead on arrival" and too many in the Senate, including Cocaine Mitch, said was essential, had all the flaws you pointed out, plus had the most grievous stupidity of allowing up to (and by some estimates more than) 5000 illegal invaders to continue pouring in before an absolute closure of the border would be considered. I'm so incredibly happy that with our tiny majority in the House this bill never saw the light of day. At the risk of sounding like I'm reveling, I hate that issues as important as these are piggy-backed onto bills addressing other issues, and then addressing some issues so poorly that support is impossible, the value of that lack of support being to provide the lying, America-hating Dem party the weak opening for pretending the GOP is the reason shit can't get done.
While ignoring a bill passed by the house and left to die in the senate for months, and the reality that Biden (without regard to anyone's distaste for EO's) has the ability to make significant changes through executive action. The DFL needs the Narrative that they are being hamstrung by the GOP and will do anything to maintain that Narrative. Including lie about their ability to make things happen. Dan's just a useful idiot parroting the lies he's told.
